A Standard Bearer Sister Betsy Jean Farrakhan: The Epitome of Strength, Beauty and Service by Nisa Islam Muhammad and Charlene Muhammad | Final Call Staff | @TheFinalCall --- The year was 1985. I (Sister Nisa Islam Muhammad) was pregnant with my son Nasser, sitting among some 25,000 people packed into Madison Square Garden in New York, waiting to hear the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan speak.

Sister Betsy Jean Farrakhan, affectionately called by family and close friends as “B.J.,” was a quintessential embodiment of a woman of God. She was as stern as she was beautiful, her heart full of love for the Believers, in particular for the women of the Nation of Islam. While her tenure as National M.G.T. and G.C.C. Captain of the Nation of Islam was and is legendary, her impact in farming and agriculture was and is just as impactful.

[Editor’s note: The Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan appointed his daughter and eldest child, Sister Betsy Jean Farrakhan, as his first National Captain of the Muslim Girls Training and General Civilization Class (M.G.T. and G.C.C.) in December of 1988 where she served faithfully until 1992. Her captaincy set a standard for the three future National M.G.T. Captains who served after Sister Betsy Jean Farrakhan.

Firstborn daughter and eldest child of the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan and Mother Khadijah Farrakhan, remembered as a devoted Muslim, leader of women, farmer, protector and servant CHICAGO—Sister Betsy Jean Farrakhan was remembered Sept. 25 as a devoted Muslim, protector, leader of women and cultivator of the earth whose decades of service touched family, the Nation of Islam and the next generation she helped prepare to carry the work forward.

“In a world marked by turbulence, division and uncertainty, the United Nations is more necessary than ever.” That statement by UN Secretary-General Antonio Gutteres on the organization’s website touting its 81st General Assembly meeting in New York was an issue raised by world leaders Sept. 22-26 as genocide in Palestine took a prominent position in statements delivered by presidents and heads of state.
