Norfolk (VA) Firefighters Battle Barge Fire
Joshua Lynch – The Virginian-Pilot NORFOLK — A fire aboard a barge in Norfolk’s Lambert’s Point area was extinguished Wednesday evening after a multiagency response involving Norfolk Fire-Rescue, Hampton Fire Rescue and the U.S. Coast Guard. Norfolk Fire-Rescue said crews were dispatched around 5:43 p.m. after receiving reports of a barge on fire along the downtown waterfront. Due to the vessel not being accessible from land, firefighters battled the blaze from the water.
Large Seattle (WA) Fire Destroys Warehouse
Kai Uyehara – The Seattle Times A warehouse was destroyed in a large fire south of Sodo on Wednesday morning, the Seattle Fire Department said. Fifteen fire engines, seven ladder trucks and 115 personnel were among those responding to the fire. Just before 1 a.m., 911 callers reported a fire at a commercial warehouse in the 4500 block of Seventh Avenue South, the department said.

Thermal runaway is the process in which the electrolyte barrier in the battery leaks, vaporizes, or is otherwise compromised.
10-Year-Old Dies After Fire in IL Apartment Building
Olivia Stevens – Daily Southtown (Tinley Park, Ill.) A 10-year-old girl has died after a two-story apartment fire Monday night on the 2900 Block of Bernice Road in Lansing, fire officials said. The child, identified by the Cook County medical examiner’s office as 10-year-old Braelyn Stewart of Dolton, was taken to Munster Community Hospital before being transferred to Comer Children’s Hospital in Chicago, where she was pronounced dead at 4:18 p.m. Tuesday.
