Technology is accelerating faster than many of us can comprehend. Soon there will be quantum computers orbiting the planet, performing an infinite number of tasks that currently take systems days or weeks to accomplish in mere seconds. Drone and robotics technology will revolutionize firefighting, search and rescue, medical diagnoses, and almost every function in our service. Despite the advancements, our people will be more critical than ever.

THE FIRE HELMET is part necessity and part practicality. It is personal protective equipment (PPE), and it is also identity. There is no headwear as iconic as the American fire helmet. Over the years, it has been leather, aluminum, and plastic. Alterations, modifications, and enhancements have altered its original girth, but it still remains recognizable as the American fire helmet. The fire helmet can tell a lot about the wearer. It is as bold a statement as the car you drive or the clothes you wear.

THE TERM “servant leadership” is often thrown out very nonchalantly in leadership classes and articles. The term gained popularity in 1977 when the work of Robert K. Greenleaf was published in the book Servant Leadership: A Journey into the Nature of Legitimate Power & Greatness. Greenleaf looked at leadership not only from an individual perspective but also in terms of corporations’ impact on society.
