Clips of old earthquakes in Taiwan and the Philippines have been included in a video compilation supposedly showing damage from the recent earthquake in Indonesia. A 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck Indonesia on 15 August killing at least 70 people. Three of the clips in the compilation shared online show real footage from the Indonesian earthquake, but two were actually filmed in the Philippines in October 2025, and another shows the aftermath of an earthquake in Taiwan in April 2024.

Old videos of 2025 Philippines earthquake shared in aftermath of recent Indonesia quake
What was claimed A video of a room of young people reacting to an earthquake and another clip of people sheltering under a table were filmed during a quake that struck Indonesia on 15 August. Our verdict They weren't. The videos actually show the impact of an earthquake that hit the Philippines in October 2025. Old footage filmed during an earthquake that struck the Philippines last year is being shared on social media with captions suggesting it shows a quake that hit Indonesia last weekend.

What was claimed A video shows a migrant saying “I want my money and my free house and English woman, it’s my dream”. Our verdict This video has been altered. In the original clip the man is speaking Arabic and does not say this. A video of a migrant appearing to say “I want my money and my free house and English woman, it’s my dream” has been shared thousands of times online. But the clip has been edited—the original version doesn’t show the man saying this.
The Cancer Act 1939 doesn’t make it ‘illegal to cure cancer’
What was claimed Under the 1939 Cancer Act it's a criminal offense for medical practitioners to even advise patients on potential cancer cures. Our verdict False. The Cancer Act 1939 prohibits advertisements promoting cancer treatments to the general public. It doesn’t prevent medical practitioners from treating patients. False claims that legislation from 1939 makes it “illegal to cure cancer” are recirculating on Facebook.
Telegraph updates Covid vaccines article following study retraction
The Telegraph has added an Editor’s Note to a 2024 article, after Full Fact got in touch to flag that the scientific study it was based on had been retracted. The study, originally published in the journal BMJ Public Health in May 2024, was reported by the Telegraph under the headline “Covid vaccines may have helped fuel rise in excess deaths”.
Smear test brushes are safe
What was claimed The brush used in cervical smear tests is sterilised in “cancer-causing” ethylene oxide. Our verdict Overexposure to ethylene oxide can be dangerous, but medical devices sterilised with it are not unsafe. We’ve seen claims circulating online that the brush used in cervical smear tests is sterilised in a “cancer-causing” chemical called ethylene oxide. Ethylene oxide is a gas that is all sorts of medical devices, including swabs and speculums.

It is an edited version of a real picture of Mr Burnham wearing a completely different outfit. An image of Andy Burnham edited to show him wearing a “Free Palestine” T-shirt is circulating on Facebook. The image depicts the Prime Minister wearing a T-shirt with the Palestinian flag and the words “Free Palestine” on it.
Old video shared with misleading suggestion it shows migrants recently crossing into Ceuta
What was claimed A video shows migrants being assisted across the border at Ceuta recently. Our verdict This is incorrect. While the clip does reportedly show migrants crossing over the Moroccan border into the Spanish enclave of Ceuta, this video actually dates from 2021. Old footage is being shared online with the misleading suggestion it shows recent scenes of Moroccan migrants crossing the border into Ceuta.
