On Wednesday, Oct. 9, a powerful tornado touched down in western Wellington, sweeping northeast into the Acreage/Loxahatchee area. A press conference was held Friday, Oct. 11 in the rural Wellington enclave of Rustic Ranches off Flying Cow Road, where the tornado first touched ground, in order to bring awareness to the devastation these communities faced. Cleanup is on-going and many people in the area have no power, or their homes are a total loss.

A powerful tornado touched down in the western Wellington area, traveling northeast through parts of the Acreage/Loxahatchee area, at approximately 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 9, leaving behind a devastating trail of destruction. According to the National Weather Service, the rare EF-3 tornado had winds up to 140 mph and a maximum width of 300 yards. It first touched down in western Wellington and traveled 21 miles to Jupiter Farms.

On Saturday, Oct. 5, the Mall at Wellington Green hosted its annual Pink Party in honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The event included bra decorating, airbrush tattoos, giveaways and an upbeat Zumba master class for anyone to take part in. Keynote speaker Dr. Andrew Shapiro spoke about the importance of early detection, and breast cancer survivors were honored on stage.

For months, Rachelle Litt and Meg Weinberger have been campaigning hard for the District 94 seat in the Florida House of Representatives being vacated by Republican State Rep. Rick Roth. But both said this week that politics is taking a backseat as they focus on helping neighbors struggling in the wake of the powerful tornado that tore through the area Wednesday, Oct. 9.

The Royal Palm Beach Education Advisory Board welcomed an update from Cypress Trails Elementary School Principal Bruce Saulter on Monday, Oct. 7. The board meets the first Monday of every month at 6 p.m. during the school year. At each meeting, one village school is invited to present, sharing about the problems and opportunities their schools face on a daily basis, and sharing successes and solutions.
