Mike Crews, Mike Ritch take tournament title
The Mike’s have, that being angler Mike Crews and co-angler Mike Ritch, both of whom came out at the top of the list in the recent Hot Springs Village Anglers Club bass battle held at Lake Hamilton. Crews won his division with one of the largest five bass catches in several years with his impressive 16 pounds of bass. He also won the biggest bass prize with a 5.2-pound beauty. Kirk Bixler took second place with five bass totaling 7.6 pounds.
Ribbon-cutting at new Feline Adoption Center
Representatives from the Hot Springs Village Area Chamber of Commerce presided at a ribbon-cutting on July 9 for the beautiful new Feline Adoption Center at the Animal Welfare League. The facility is the result of dreams and plans and fundraising – and a lot of work by volunteers. From the entrance drive, with its new coat of asphalt, to the adoption office, the center is spotless and well organized.
John S. Swinburn
John Springer Swinburn died peacefully at home on June 18, 2026 after valiantly enduring two bouts of lung cancer. John, the youngest of six children, was born on October 21, 1953 in Brownsville, Texas to J.C. and Eleanor Christian Swinburn. When John was young, the family moved to Corpus Christi when John lived until high school graduation. John then attended and graduated from University of Texas, Austin. He had a long career in trade association management.
Earnest H. Cooper
Ernest Harper Cooper, 86, died peacefully June 17, 2026, in Hot Springs Village, AR. He was born in Little Rock, AR, on March 10, 1940. Harper graduated from Pine Bluff High School in 1958. Being gifted in sports, he was an excellent athlete excelling in football, basketball and baseball. In addition to sports, he was an avid piano player and went on to the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville on a piano scholarship. He was a member of the Sigma Nu Fraternity.
Patriotic music and ice cream go hand in hand
Village residents came to hear patriotic music by Little Rock’s Top of the Rock Chorus and were treated to a memorable concert as well as complementary ice cream sundaes following the performance at Kirk in the Pines Presbyterian Church, on Sunday afternoon, July 5. It was a fitting finale to the activities planned for America’s 250 Celebration in Hot Springs Village. Founded 62 years ago, the chorus currently numbers 45 women who “just love to sing harmony” in the barbershop style.
Saline County considers vicious dog ordinance
A vicious dog ordinance covering most unincorporated areas in Saline County is set for review by Saline County Quorum Court at 6:30 p.m. Monday, July 20. The ordinance excludes Hot Springs Village, which already has special vicious dog ordinances in both Garland and Saline counties. The proposed ordinance is revised after public meetings held by the Saline County Animal Control Temporary Committee. County Judge Matt Brumley appointed the members.
