At 7 a.m. the sun was shining, the water sparkled, and the parking lot at Balboa beach filled quickly as runners and spectators arrived for the July 4th 5K Fun Run and Walk scheduled to begin at 7:30 a.m. The event, sponsored by the Hot Property Owners Association of Hot Springs Village, was first held in 2025 but is now deemed to be a tradition, along with a kids’ fishing derby and the fireworks display, for future July 4 celebrations.

Four local authors agreed that writing a book is “hard work,” especially when it’s a work of fiction, at a Meet the Authors event Tuesday, June 23, sponsored by Friends of the Coronado Center Library (FOCCL). First on the program was Dr. Nancy Hendricks, a prolific award-winning writer who specializes in writing about influential women in history, spoke about her recently released book on Sandra Day O’Connor.
