For a while, it looked like Greenwood Christian was going to cruise. Then Calhoun Falls Charter made the Hawks sweat. Greenwood Christian jumped out to a 26-6 halftime lead, only to watch the Flashes storm back within six in the third quarter. But the Hawks provided the final answer, and with a pair of big plays, they pulled away for a 40-28 victory Friday night. The Hawks couldn't have scripted a better opening.

The Ware Shoals football team notched their first win of the season with a 35-12 victory over Thornwell. Later this month, Greenwood City Council will decide whether to suspend or revoke the business license of a massage spa. The business has been the subject of a police prostitution investigation and multiple arrests. COLUMBIA — When legislators passed a $350 million spending deal, they announced an agreement to change how the funding is doled out next year, including not sending money directly to nonprofits. The Senate’s spending this year is an example of how that might look. The Senate’s list of projects, which totals about $110 million, technically sends money only to local cities and counties, at the insistence of Finance Chairman Harvey Peeler.
