Dr. Charlie Estrada, Dr. Leslie Barrilleaux and the team at Dentistry Today joined Mountain Lakes Chamber of Commerce representatives Jessica Hall and Rick Roden for a ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrating the practice's Chamber membership and welcoming Estrada as the newest dentist at the office, located at 921 S. Broad St. in Scottsboro.

The IMPACT Learning Center presented a check to Scottsboro City Schools last week, with the check being used to help fund Scottsboro City Schools with their Magic School AI, a program designed to assist teachers with developing lesson plans for individual students and assisting students with ideas and guidance.

On July 9, the Scottsboro City Schools Board of Education held its monthly work session and meeting. During the work session, the board heard from two guest speakers: Katie Condit from MDA Professional Group and Claire Meeks from Schneider Electric. At the meeting, the board approved the purchase of two school buses for the system’s fleet and an agreement with Interquest Canine for the use of drug dogs. MDA Professional Group, P.C., performed an audit of SCS’s financial records.

The Scottsboro varsity boys basketball program entered its summer practices and June play dates hoping to answer some questions it had about its new-look roster. The Wildcats returned just one full-time starter and five full-time varsity players in all, and head coach Jason Bell and his coaching staff were eager to see the roster fall into place. They did not have to wait long for that to happen. “A week or so into the summer, (the varsity roster) really solidified itself,” Bell said.

Forty-eight children in Department of Human Resources foster care in Jackson County will be heading back to school next month. The public can offer their help through donations by utilizing one or both of the following two options. One of the least favorite duties head football coaches have to perform is scheduling non-region games. As soon as the AHSAA releases its new classifications, the free-for-all begins. But sometimes, it goes smoothly. Bryant celebrated America's 250th birthday and honored local veterans during its Fourth of July parade, which featured 57 vehicles, including fire department units from Bryant, Flat Rock and Higdon. The North Sand Mountain girls softball team carried the parade banner, retired Jackson County teacher Ed Carter served as grand marshal, and Afghanistan War veteran Jason Smith carried the American flag in his custom wheelchair.

Mr. Danny Wilborn, 66, of Rainsville passed away Thursday, July 9, 2026. Funeral services were held Saturday, July 11, at noon in the Rainsville Funeral Home Chapel with Steve Webster and Chad Brown officiating. Burial followed in Haigwood Cemetery. Rainsville Funeral Home directed the arrangements.
