Jill Mendoza has been selected as Wheat Ridge’s next economic development manager. Wheat Ridge will soon have a new economic leader, as the city has selected a new Economic Development Manager. Jill Mendoza will soon serve as the city’s economic development manager and executive director of Renewal Wheat Ridge.

Ralston Valley senior Ayla Chang has earned a scholarship from Students of History. Ralston Valley High School Senior Ayla Chang earned a $1,000 Students of History Scholarship, one of three students nationwide who received the honor. Since 2017, Students of History has honored high schoolers who display a special interest in their studies of history. For Chang, that passion began in her AP World History Class.

Chatfield sophomore Brody Harman (10) is one of the young, talented players the Chargers will return next season. Chatfield’s baseball program was one of the Cinderella stories during the 2026 Class 5A postseason. The Chargers were the No. 27 seed of the 32 teams that advanced to regionals. Chatfield upset No. 6 Brighton and No. 11 Fort Collins to punch the Chargers’ ticket to the 5A double-elimination state tournament for the first time since 2021.

Arvada Summerfest is returning for its second iteration this year. A year after its debut, Arvada Summerfest is returning to the Ralston Park Addition on June 6 for an afternoon of live music, activities and entertainment. The event is set for 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is free to the public. This year’s Summerfest will feature live music performances from Booty and the Beat, Jesh Yancey and the High Hopes, and D.J. Williams Band. The event is presented by Parry’s Pizzeria and Taphouse.

Elk cows are now calving and will be crossing the highway with their babies. Multiple efforts from Evergreen’s Wild Aware, the Colorado State Patrol and Jefferson County, are working together to make Evergreen Parkway safer, especially for wild animal crossings. Wild Aware and CSP hosted the conference on the morning of May 27 to announce the second annual “Give me a Brake” campaign, aimed at reducing vehicle-wildlife collisions.

Jim Roome When I was 12 years old, my father wanted to teach me how to work, so we got a paper route with the Rocky Mountain News and delivered 350 papers every morning. It was a ton of work, but one of the rewards of doing that job was being able to purchase, from a friend of my parents, two Denver Broncos season tickets. I bought those seats for several years, 1978 -1982. The seats were in section 512 in the old Mile High Stadium.

The Arvada Center plans to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community at three events in June. The Arvada Center is getting ready for Pride Month, as the cultural hub will celebrate the LGBTQ+ community with three events throughout June. Arvada Center Marketing and Communications Director Sarah Kolb said she is looking forward to the three events, which include a cabaret, a drag queen story hour, and a concert.
