According to the latest research report from Jon Peddie Research, the growth of the global PC-based graphics add-in board market reached 12.5 million units in Q2’26, and desktop PC CPUs shipments decreased to 14 million units. Overall, AIBs will have a compound annual growth rate of -2.5% from 2025 to 2030 and reach an installed base of 193 million units at the end of the forecast period. Over the next five years, the penetration of AIBs in desktop PCs will be 130%. Figure 1.
Enflame completes China’s four-dragons IPOs
Enflame Technology just became the last of China’s “four little dragons” to go public, closing out a historic wave of AI chip IPOs. The Tencent-backed start-up is raising $911 million on Shanghai’s STAR Market, betting its future on a fundamentally different chip architecture than its GPU-focused rivals.
Biren revenue surges nearly 2,000%
Biren Technology just posted numbers that would make most chip start-ups blush: revenue up nearly 2,000% year on year, losses narrowing sharply, and a fresh Hong Kong Stock Exchange listing under its belt. The Chinese GPGPU maker built its whole business around domestic substitution, the industrywide push to replace Nvidia hardware as US export restrictions tighten and China’s own AI computing build-out accelerates.
Nvidia explores deal with Rebellions
Nvidia just sat down with Rebellions, a five-year-old Korean start-up that’s quietly become one of the most commercially-credible non-US AI chip companies running today. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang met Rebellions CEO Sunghyun Park in Santa Clara to discuss a technical partnership, an investment, or an outright acquisition, still very early and unconfirmed.
Arm extends its AI platform across cloud, mobile, and physical AI
Arm has announced a series of AI products and ecosystem initiatives spanning mobile devices, cloud infrastructure, developer tools, and robotics. New products include CSS for Mobile 2, the Mali G2-Ultra NX GPU, Neoverse CSS N4, and the Arm AI Portal. Arm is also extending Total Design into physical AI and proposing a Robotics Capability Framework intended to give the robotics industry a more consistent way to describe system capabilities.
The workstation market softens in Q2’26
Jon Peddie Research releases its second-quarter 2026 workstation report. The workstation market was arguably due to soften in the near future, and Q2’26 delivered on that expectation. Year over year, shipments declined 2.3% and 16% sequentially, with both figures marking the most significant drops since 2023, in the aftermath of a very atypical pandemic period. Second-quarter volume is often down sequentially from Q1, but Q2’26’s more substantial drop may raise eyebrows.
Acer shrinks Atlas without cutting ambition
Acer’s Predator Atlas 7 brings the company’s new Intel-based gaming handheld architecture into a smaller 7-inch package. It combines Intel Arc G3 graphics, a 120 Hz FHD display, an 80 Wh battery, dual-fan cooling, and premium controls with Windows 11 and Xbox Game Pass. Acer also gives buyers a choice between Arc G3 and G3 Extreme configurations. The missing piece remains price, which will determine whether the Atlas 7 can turn a solid technical design into a competitive handheld platform.
Groq 3 LPX accelerates agentic inference
Nvidia has moved Groq 3 LPX into full production as an inference accelerator focused on the decode side of agentic AI. The architecture combines 256 LP30 processors, rack-scale SRAM and compiler-scheduled chip-to-chip communication to drive token generation at very small batch sizes. Artificial Analysis measured more than 3,400 output tokens per second on Gemma 4 31B with 100K context. Nvidia plans to pair LPX with Vera Rubin NVL72 for long-context, highly interactive inference workloads.
SambaNova tackles AI’s memory wall
AI inference increasingly runs into memory and system-level constraints rather than a shortage of arithmetic. SambaNova designed its SN40L Reconfigurable Dataflow Unit around that problem, combining streaming dataflow with SRAM, HBM, and DDR memory. The architecture supports large models and collections of specialized models while reducing data movement and rack requirements.
CIX Technology has nearly RMB 1 billion riding on the ‘agent CPU’
Chinese processor developer CIX Technology has raised nearly RMB 1 billion in a Series B round as it moves from chip development into something more difficult: getting processors into real systems. The company now has a Lenovo design win, a three-tier CIX ClawCore processor roadmap, and ambitions stretching from AI PCs to edge servers and robotics. Lenovo gives CIX’s Arm processor ambitions some commercial weight.
