CALGARY, ALTA. — The tech behemoth behind Facebook and Instagram says it plans to make Alberta home to its first artificial intelligence data centre in Canada, and its largest outside the United States. Meta announced Wednesday that the $13-billion-plus project is to be built in Sturgeon County, in the Industrial Heartland region north of Edmonton. The one-gigawatt data centre will be powered by a natural gas-fired plant to be built by a consortium that includes Calgary-based Pembina Pipeline Ltd.

COQUITLAM, B.C. — More seniors in Coquitlam, B.C. will soon have access to safe, affordable homes, as construction is underway on 158 new rental units across two developments. The developments are a result of a partnership under the Community Housing Fund between the province, through BC Housing, the City of Coquitlam and S.U.C.C.E.S.S., a non-profit housing provider that will own and operate the homes.

IQALUIT – A massive plan to formally guide where, how and when land and water can be used in Canada’s easternmost territory has been rejected by the federal and Nunavut governments, as well as a group representing Inuit in the territory. The Nunavut land-use plan went through four drafts since 2007 and, during that time, the Nunavut Planning Commission held hundreds of meetings, technical workshops, hearings and interviews across the territory’s 25 communities and in northern Manitoba.
