I was very fortunate to be able to spend some hours poring over every stitch of the Bayeux Tapestry (‘The Adventures of Harold’?) at the British Museum this morning. Rather than telling the by-now rather well-worn story, here are some details that caught my eye. Do look out for them if you are able to visit what is a remarkable exhibition. 1. Harold embarks on his adventures, sailing to France, where he is promptly arrested by Count Guy.
What nobody is saying about the Bayeux Tapestry
Trees from the Bayeux Tapestry I’VE BEEN LOOKING AGAIN at the Bayeux Tapestry, in advance of the exhibition on Great Russell Street opening next week. I say ‘again’ because I grew up seeing the copy in Reading Museum, when it was pretty much the only notable work of art on permanent display in my home town (and might still well be).
