National Geographic-Lindblad launches first European river expedition, with second ship to follow
National Geographic-Lindblad Expeditions has moved into European river cruising for the first time, extending its expedition model beyond ocean voyages with an inaugural Holland and Belgium sailing and further expansion already scheduled. The operator’s first European river departure set sail on 15 August 2026 aboard the newly built, 120-guest Transcend Connect.

Qatar Airways flies world-first Starlink-equipped 787-9 and boosts Wi-Fi on Aussie routes
The milestone means Aussies flying Qatar Airways between Australasia and Doha are increasingly likely to board an aircraft with free, gate-to-gate Qatar Airways Starlink Wi-Fi via Privilege Club membership. Qatar Airways has also completed its Starlink rollout across the Boeing 787-8 sub-fleet in seven months, taking its total number of Starlink-equipped widebody aircraft to 150.
AirAsia suspends only Sydney service but boosts 3 other Australian routes
AirAsia will suspend its Sydney–Kuala Lumpur route, its only Sydney service, as part of a global network recalibration aimed at optimising efficiency and maintaining a commercially viable operation. The low-cost carrier has framed the move as a repositioning rather than a retreat with planned frequency increases across three other Australian services offsetting the Sydney withdrawal.
Danube downer: European river cruises cancelled as heatwave and drought affects water levels
The ongoing European summer heatwave, which has caused widespread wildfires in France, Spain and Croatia, power outages and attraction closures, has also affected river water levels and ship access. Sections of the Danube and Rhine rivers in Germany, Austria and Romania are currently experiencing exceptionally low water levels, resulting in the modification of itineraries and some European river cruises cancelled outright.
Travel industry experts slam new Fiji Tourism Services Tax as Aussie travellers left exposed
