Sydney, Melbourne airports set for China flights boost as carriers make Aussie push

Sydney Airport confirmed to Karryon that Air China’s Sydney-Beijing (Capital) flights will increase from seven to 10-weekly services from 1 December to 14 January 2027, before growing to a twice-daily operation from 15 January to 21 February 2027. Air China will utilise its B787-9 aircraft on the extra capacity.

Wider aisles, live flight screens and luggage space: first Western Sydney Airport Metro train arrives

Designed specifically for airport travellers, the new fleet of trains will feature wider aisles than those in existing Sydney Metro services, making it easier for passengers travelling with luggage to move through the carriages. Other additions include luggage storage beneath seats, live flight information displays linked directly to Western Sydney Airport, multiple seating configurations, wheelchair spaces, hearing loops and bicycle storage.

Qatar Airways completes Aussie comeback with resumption of this route

The Doha-based airline will return to the nation’s capital from 8 December, initially flying four times per week between Doha and Canberra (via Melbourne in each direction) before ramping up to daily flights in March 2027, Canberra Airport CEO Stephen Byron said. In December 2025, Qatar Airways resumed its long-haul Doha-Canberra service after more than five years, following a suspension due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
