SHELLY KREUGER/Contributed Monroe County is coordinating with state regulating agencies and local partners to publish guidance on the widespread influx of sargassum grass affecting oceanside shorelines and canals throughout the Florida Keys.

A Monroe County grand jury has indicted a Cudjoe Key man, Bradly Shawn Shadduck, 56, for the first-degree murder of his wife, Lynne Shadduck, on May 28. Shadduck was arrested the night of the murder, and faced a second-degree murder charge until the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office completed its investigation. “The indictment supersedes the previously filed second-degree murder charge,” states a press release from the Monroe County State Attorney’s Office.

There was a time when I knew everyone’s phone number by heart. I could tell you my best friend’s number, my grandparents’ number, the number to order pizza, and probably the hotline to Kiss Radio to vote for the Top 10 at 10. Now? I occasionally stare blankly when someone asks me my husband’s phone number. I want to say, “He’s in my favorites,” just so they know I care deeply when I have to look it up. To be fair, technology has made life remarkably convenient. I unlock my phone with my face.

A three-month pool and facility renovation was complete, and local officials celebrated with a ribbon-cutting to mark the reopening. Last February, the Olympic-sized pool at Islamorada’s Founders Park was shut down so contractors could install a new pool interior surface. The pool was constructed in 2001.

CFK students have access to a wide range of academic programs and career training opportunities, including marine engine repair, on a waterfront campus. CONTRIBUTED The College of the Florida Keys (CFK) is hosting “Back on Course at CFK,” a free event designed to help students get their classes lined up and enroll for the fall 2026 semester. Classes begin on Aug. 17 for the fall 2026 semester.
