The log plot of the CDC all-cause mortality data below shows the age groups have very similar relative timing and wave shape. Peaks and troughs line up across most adult age bands. The lines are all parallel to each other. That supports the point that the mortality pattern is broadly systemic rather than showing an obvious clean elderly-only break. From CDC UCOD.
