DEWEY, Okla. — An investigation is underway into the death of Sgt. Robbie Hicks. The Dewey Police Department confirmed Sgt. Hicks died Sept. 7 from a self inflicted gunshot wound as he was being served a protective order. Chief Jimmy Gray said Hicks died at Jane Phillips Emergency Room in Bartlesville. The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigations is investigating the death, at the direction of Washington County District Attorney William Drake.

Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan will remain in jail while they fight extradition to the United Kingdom, where they are accused of rape and sex trafficking. A federal judge in Miami ruled Wednesday the brothers had not demonstrated that they were not a flight risk or a danger to the community. The ruling means they will stay in custody in Florida as extradition hearings go on, a process that could take months.

OWASSO, Okla. — Owasso's Animal Control Division recently added two animal microchip checking stations. The city says the stations make it easier for lost pets to reunite with their loved ones. The city also says the stations were donated by Best Friends Animal Society and aim to reduce the number of lost animals entering the Owasso Animal Shelter. The emergency evacuation slide on the plane President Donald Trump was scheduled to take to Texas for the Republican midterm convention inflated before takeoff Wednesday. The slide unfurled from the cargo side of the Qatari plane at Joint Base Andrews. Trump had just arrived at the airport when the incident occurred and was not on the plane at the time. The aircraft uses the Air Force One call sign when Trump is aboard. He downplayed the incident while speaking with reporters.

A new Florida International University study found popular fitness watches consistently overestimated how many calories people burned during workouts. Researchers tested Apple, Garmin, Samsung and Fitbit devices against clinical lab equipment and found error rates often ranged from 15 to 25 percent. The British Journal of Sports Medicine published a study indicating that a person’s walking cadence could be linked to longevity. While higher daily step counts were associated with improved longevity, researchers found that people taking fewer steps may also lower their risk of early death if they walk at a faster pace. The study focused on both total daily steps and “peak 30-minute cadence,” or the average walking speed during the fastest 30 minutes of the day.
