Another round of thunderstorms could bring damaging winds and heavy rainfall to Lincoln late Thursday night into early Friday morning, followed by cooler and drier weather for the weekend. National Weather Service meteorologist Taylor Nicolaisen told KLIN the most significant storms are expected to arrive around midnight or shortly afterward. “The big show, the main show, is going to be late tonight,” Nicolaisen said.

Flood’s office says the congressman will provide an update on his work on behalf of Lincoln and Nebraska’s First Congressional District. The event will also include a question-and-answer period with constituents.

Portions of two Lincoln streets will close during the week of July 27 for paving and pavement repairs. Lincoln Transportation and Utilities says northbound 27th Street between Nebraska Parkway and Woods Boulevard will close Monday, July 27, for a paving project. The closure is expected to remain in place through mid-August. Local access to homes and businesses will be maintained.

According to the Governor’s Office, the delegation departed this weekend and includes Nebraska farmers and ranchers, leaders from the ethanol industry, and representatives of the state’s advanced manufacturing sector.

Southeast Nebraska remains under an Extreme Heat Warning through 9 p.m. Sunday, with dangerously high temperatures and heat index values expected to reach 110 to 112 degrees in Lincoln. A Heat Advisory will then remain in effect through 10 p.m. Monday, as another day of dangerous heat is forecast.

Nebraska’s casino gaming tax receipts declined in June, with collections falling statewide and at Lincoln’s WarHorse Casino. The Nebraska Racing and Gaming Commission reported nearly $4.98 million in statewide gaming tax receipts for June. That was down 8.1% from the approximately $5.42 million collected in May. WarHorse Casino Lincoln generated about $1.4 million in gaming taxes during June, a 13.8% decline from more than $1.62 million the previous month.

Nebraska Democrats have a vacancy to fill on the November ballot after Cindy Burbank declined the party’s nomination for U.S. Senate. Secretary of State Bob Evnen confirmed his office received Burbank’s formal declination of the nomination. Evnen notified Nebraska Democratic Party Chair Jane Kleeb of the withdrawal in a letter dated July 21. According to Evnen, Burbank’s decision creates a ballot vacancy under Nebraska state law.

A group seeking major changes to Lincoln city elections says it has submitted enough petition signatures to place three proposed City Charter amendments before voters in November. Good Government Lincoln announced Monday that it turned in more than 9,750 signatures for each proposal. The group is led by Lincoln business owner and former Republican state senator and state tax commissioner Tony Fulton. The signatures must still be reviewed and certified before the amendments qualify for the ballot.

14-year-old Maily Figueroa has been found and is safe according to Lincoln Police. Maily was last seen around 12:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 20, leaving Bryan West hospital. No further details are available at this time. The original story is available here.
