Havelock Avenue Bridge Reopens Ahead of National High School Rodeo

Traffic is once again flowing on Havelock Avenue between North 84th Street and North 98th Street after Lancaster County officially reopened County Bridge K-144 Tuesday afternoon. The bridge had been closed since April 27 while crews completed a major rehabilitation project that included repairs to both the bridge deck and its underlying concrete structure. General Excavating, which was awarded the contract in December 2025, completed the work by the project’s June 30 deadline.

Worker Buried in Trench Collapse in East Lincoln

Lincoln Fire and Rescue crews spent Tuesday morning working to free a construction worker trapped in a trench collapse at a job site just north of 98th and ‘O’ Street in the Waterford Estates neighborhood. Public Information Officer MJ Lierman says the call came in just after 10:20 a.m. with the worker buried up to his neck. “Co-workers jumped in and were attempting to free his airway,” Lierman says.

City Reminds Residents: Blow It Up, Clean It Up

Lincoln residents are being reminded to clean up and properly dispose of fireworks after Independence Day celebrations. Keep Lincoln and Lancaster County Beautiful and Lincoln Transportation and Utilities say cooled fireworks debris should be soaked in water or sand before being placed in the trash. Unused or unexploded fireworks should never go into garbage or recycling bins and can be picked up by the Lincoln Bureau of Fire Prevention.
