Van Meter fends off late rally from Treynor to secure road victory
(Treynor) -- What started as a rock fight ended with some fireworks as Van Meter staved off Treynor to pick up a state-rated road victory Friday night. The KMA State 2A No. 6 Bulldogs (1-1) were able to outlast the KMA State 1A No. 5 Cardinals (1-1) and hold off a last-minute charge to pick up the 35-28 win on the KMAX-Stream. "It was a game of survival of the fittest and we found a way to finish the game tonight," Van Meter Head Coach Eric Trudo told KMA Sports.
Iowa pheasant numbers down overall but many areas have plenty of birds
(KMAland) -- The DNR expert who runs the roadside pheasant survey says numbers are down, but he still sees a good season ahead. Wildlife biologist Todd Bogenschutz says the overall number of birds dropped 17% from last year. “But in many of the regions the the stats said there really wasn’t any change, ” he says. He says the biggest drop was in northeast and southeast Iowa. They saw an average of 23 birds on their survey routes, but that fell to 19 birds in northeast Iowa.
