Governor Brad Little announced two new members to the Idaho Board of Education yesterday. Mary Lynn Harwell, of Idaho Falls, and Joel Beck, of American Falls, will be joining the board, pending Senate confirmation. Harwell has more than four decades of experience in the insurance industry and has served on the College of Eastern Idaho Finance Committee. She is also a graduate of Idaho Falls High School. Beck is an attorney, former American Falls School trustee, and community leader.

Jackson Hole emergency responders are hosting two community events to honor emergency responders who died on 9/11. At 8:30 a.m. Friday, there will be a 9/11 ceremony on Town Square. Then the Snow King Hill Climb will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., beginning at the base of Snow King Mountain. Participants can hike the equivalent height of the 110 stories of the World Trade Center. Free water and T-shirts will be available. There will also be a community barbecue during the event.

Banjo is a pittie-mix, and he's looking for a forever home. His former family says he's super friendly with people, including kids. Authorities have identified a man who died after he reportedly shot himself after a confrontation with law enforcement. The man was identified as Cory Carter Bates, of Lewisville. The incident happened Saturday at the Off Ramp Bar and Grill in Rigby after Bates was reported to be waving his handgun around and causing a disturbance. Officers responded, and shortly after, Bates shot himself. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Eastern Idaho State Fair is well underway and one local man says he's been working the fair for years. Dennis Spencer says he's been working at the fair for 19 years in different capacities. For the last few years he's been sitting under an umbrella in a parking lot helping fair goers get parked. He says a few years ago he scanned 26,000 people through his gate in just nine days. Dennis says he's seen a lot of people and experienced a lot of things over the years.

The Bonneville County Coroner’s Office has identified a man who died after an officer-involved shooting. The man has been identified as Marcus Griffin, of Idaho Falls. The shooting happened Friday after the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office was called to a home after Griffin reported that he was armed and planning to commit suicide. When deputies arrived, Griffin came out holding a gun, and shots were fired. Griffin was shot and killed. No deputies were injured. An investigation is ongoing.
