EAU CLAIRE — A man charged in connection with an August 2025 stabbing pleaded not guilty Friday. Samuel Thornton, 42, Eau Claire, faces charges of first degree recklessly endangering safety, aggravated battery, substantial battery with intent to cause bodily harm, and possession of cocaine. All but the drug charge have enhancements for use of a dangerous weapon and repeat offenses.

WINNIPEG, Manitoba (AP) — Jonathan Toews announced his retirement Friday, ending a decorated NHL career that included three Stanley Cups, two Olympic gold medals and a comeback season with his hometown Winnipeg Jets.
