The Altoona High School boys tennis team had its share of players step up and deliver at the state tournament. Senior Carter Drescher was one of them. Drescher came through with a clutch comeback win to clinch the Division 2 state championship for the Railroaders. Drescher and his Altoona teammates earned a 5-2 win over Madison Edgewood last Saturday at Nielsen Stadium in Madison. Altoona led 3-2 when Drescher ended up in a tiebreaker in No. 2 singles.

Express keep rolling, power past first place La Crosse

Leadoff batter JP Pennella supplied the spark. And his Eau Claire Express teammates followed suit. Pennella drove in three runs and pitcher Riley Fisher delivered a strong start as Eau Claire powered past first place La Crosse 9-4 on Monday night. The Express collected 15 hits while improving to 11-10 in Northwoods League baseball play. They earned the victory before 1,120 fans at Carson Park. The Loggers fell to 12-8 overall.
