Mario Parent has been walking across Canada this summer to raise funds, and awareness for suicide prevention, and mental health. He has raised over $5,000 alone through his Go Fund Me Campaign, not to mention in person donations that he has accepted in communities that he has traveled through. Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at 9:00am you can meet Mario, as he will stop by Coolheat Comfort on highway 17 in Cumberland (2591 Ottawa Regional Rd 174) to visit with residents and share his story.

The City of Ottawa reminds everyone that municipal beaches are now closed for the season, and no longer have lifeguard supervision or water quality testing. To protect yourself and your family, the city is asking residents, and tourists to not swim at these locations or any unsupervised waterfronts.

Ireland’s National Wax Museum is making a new Sinead O’Connor wax statue because of the backlash the original one received, which is pictured above. The Museum’s curator says,  “We get tourists asking to see it, every hour of every day, but we tell them it’s not for viewing. This has become our most famous waxwork since the National Wax Museum opened in 1983 — but we won’t ever put it on display again.

KickStart After 4 Club Programs provide healthy snacks for school-aged children during the school year. Cirque du Soleil is back! I had a chance to take in ECHO last night at Places des Festival, Zibi in Gatineau, and what a joyful and wondrous experience! I’ve see several Cirque du Soleil shows in the past, so I knew what to expect… but these show always deliver surprises and I have to say… ECHO went beyond my expectations. There is a story line… but frankly, it’s abstract and fantastical and not so easy to follow… but that hardly makes a difference.

There are so many streaming services, from Prime, Disney+, the popular Netflix and many other small outlets, add another one to your monthly subscription. Hallmark’s new streaming service will launch in September. Representatives from Hallmark say the service will air many new movies. Fans of Hallmark Channel are extremely excited for the service to premier. The annual membership cost will be $8.00, or monthly fees will cost $8.00. Now you can get your fill of Christmas movies whenever you want them.

Air Canada will begin flying non-stop from Ottawa International Airport to London’s Heathrow Airport next spring. Air Canada has announced it will launch non-stop international flights from Ottawa to London’s Heathrow on March 31, 2025. Flights will be operated four times weekly with Air Canada’s Dreamliner fleet. According to the schedule, flights will depart Ottawa for London on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday.

The Famers Almanac predicts a whirlwind of rain and snow this winter thanks in part to the La Nina weather pattern. La Nina, will make the tropical pacific ocean colder than normal ultimately affecting weather patterns around the world. The new year calls for Canadians to bundle up. The frigid air will cause temperatures to plummet the most during the final week of January and into the start of February. Above-normal precipitation, especially the great lakes.

A mom may allow her son to change his name for his seventh birthday. The little boy, who was adopted, says that he is bullied at school because of his first name. In school he gets upset when he has a substitute and she calls him my his first name. His name? Table. He now prefers his middle name, Harrison. The young boy doesn’t like his first name and it makes him think of bad things. He wants to get rid of Table completely and become Harrison Michael Smith-Jones.

On Sunday afternoon, the Ottawa Titans will pay tribute to the heroes of our community – police departments, fire departments, EMTs, lifeguards, and more – that keep us safe every day. On Sunday, it is First Responders Appreciation Day at Ottawa Stadium.
