A night at The Agrarian: Where even the strangers come with a moral | 'I see you!'
There's a particular kind of hotel that doesn't just give you a bed — it gives you a mood. The Agrarian, a newish boutique property from BW Signature Collection tucked into the heart of the Village of Arroyo Grande, is exactly that kind of place. Three stars, eco-conscious, craft-modern in its styling, with a heated pool and hot tub for the sore of soul and a fitness center for the ambitious of spirit. But the real draw, at least for me, was its proximity to Jaffa Café — and the name itself.
Spencer’s Fresh Market to open new Lompoc store Wednesday
Spencer’s Fresh Markets will open its new Lompoc store Wednesday, the company announced on social media, inviting the community to meet the store's staff on the day of its debut. The store sits at 1009 North H St., in the former Big Lots shopping center next to the Goodwill and Planet Fitness. It is best known for its deli counter, locally grown California produce, weekend tri-tip barbecues, and a community-focused neighborhood feel.
Cal Poly football embraces ‘being on the rise’ with new coach, facilities
Cal Poly senior linebacker Mikey D’Amato said he could feel something different in the air while talking with the media on Monday morning. “We have kind of started over,” he said. “There’s definitely a standard here now.” The Mustangs have certainly made some changes from years past. The athletics department hired former UCLA interim head coach Tim Skipper to rejuvenate the program. It also built the brand new, $45 million Madden Center headquarters for training, nutrition and team development.
Cancer survivor Cathy Cachu comes full circle, finding purpose in community she once served
Long before Cathy Cachu became a cancer survivor, she had already dedicated her life to serving others. Born at Marian Regional Medical Center and raised on the Central Coast, she built her life around community. After graduating from Arroyo Grande High School and earning a finance degree from Cal Poly, she launched what would become her life-long career in commercial banking. Along the way, she found another passion, giving back to her community.
Hancock Honors: Hancock alumna Niki Sandoval reshapes education, one community at a time
Long before Dr. Nicolasa “Niki” Sandoval became a nationally respected education leader, she was a first-generation college student trying to figure out what came next. She found the answer, or at least the beginning of it, at Allan Hancock College. Growing up Chumash on the Santa Ynez Reservation, as the oldest of four daughters raised by a single mother, Sandoval understood from an early age the importance of family, community and looking out for others.

More Than Hair: How the Back-to-School Haircut Impacts Confidence
(Feature Impact) For years, parents make nearly every style decision for their children – from first-day outfits to picture-day haircuts. Then, almost overnight, those little ones develop opinions of their own about what to wear and how to style their hair.
3 Must-Dos Before Your Next Road Trip
(Feature Impact) Review any driver’s road trip checklist, and you’ll likely find some items always top the list, such as suitcases, snacks and (sometimes) a spare tire. New research from Hankook Tire’s ongoing consumer Gauge Index Survey found that, when packing for a road trip, nearly 6 in 10 drivers (58%) said they would prioritize bringing a spare tire and tools.
School Night Meals That Help Busy Families Share Time Together
(Feature Impact) Weeknights often feel like a race against the clock. Busy families feel the squeeze from school pickups, homework and social commitments, but dinner remains one of the few opportunities for everyone to slow down, reconnect and share important moments together at the close of a hectic day.
