Garden City (N.Y.) begins the 2026 high school football season with the longest active win streak in the nation at 66 in a row. That mark is good enough for 16th place on the all-time list of consecutive wins. However, when taking into account the number of days since Garden City last lost a football game, the streak becomes even more impressive. The program's last loss was in the state playoffs on Nov. 30, 2019.

Building on the release of the Preseason MaxPreps Top 25 and MaxPreps All-Americans earlier this week, today we are highlighting the best player in every state. From returning All-Americans to up-and-comers, players were identified based on last year's statistical data provided to MaxPreps as well as local, state or national honors. Read on to find out who earned the nod in your state.

In a marquee matchup Wednesday night as part of the Corky Kell Classic in Georgia, North Gwinnett (Suwanee) stunned No. 13 Grayson (Loganville) 37-22 to kick off the 2026 season at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. North Gwinnett has now won four in a row against Grayson since 2012. The Bulldogs scored the game's first 37 points behind quarterback Elam Rahman, who completed 8 of 9 passes for 148 yards and three touchdowns. Christian Jackson had three catches for 67 yards and two scores.

Fenton led Los Alamitos (Calif.) to an 80-33 record over the last 10 years. Orange Lutheran will face eight teams in the top 100 and five teams ranked in the MaxPreps Top 25. The Lancers are the only team with at least five ranked teams on the schedule. Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) checks in at No. 2 and is the only team in the country with matchups against four teams ranked in the top 10.

Ahead of the 2026 high school volleyball season, we are highlighting the nation's top players as part of the Preseason MaxPreps All-America Team. The 2025 MaxPreps National Player of the Year Sophee Peterson is back to headline the selections for defending national champion and two-time defending Texas state champion Byron Nelson (Trophy Club). The 75 players recognized shined during competition a year ago or showed enough promise to be mentioned alongside the game's best.

The 2026 high school football season will feature nearly 100 regular season games being played in NFL, college or former MLB stadiums. The fun starts tonight in the Corky Kell Classic, which will feature four games at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, home of the Atlanta Falcons and eight 2026 World Cup matches Three additional games in the Corky Kell Classic will take place at Center Parc Stadium.

The expectation for Sierra Canyon (Chatsworth, Calif.) head coach Stefanie Wigfall is for her team to finish where it starts — No. 1. With all but two players back from a 41-4 season, Sierra Canyon has its sites set on a second state championship after winning the Division II title in 2017.

A pair of Tennessee high school football coaching legends take center stage in our annual look at the winningest active coaches in the nation — one after stepping away and the other after returning to the prep ranks. Gary Rankin, formerly of Boyd-Buchanan (Chattanooga, Tenn.), is not coaching this season after stepping down as head coach of the Buccaneers.

The Great Lakes states are defined - in large - by silos, steeples and Friday night stadium lights.
