BERKELEY, Calif. — In the long and storied high school football histories of De La Salle (Concord) and Centennial (Corona), great games have been a staple. Few if any could have surpassed De La Salle's 35-32 humdinger of a nonleague victory Saturday at California Memorial Stadium.

Bo Bryan continues his impressive senior campaign as the standout quarterback completed 24 of 33 passes for 404 yards and six touchdowns to lead Battle Ground Academy (Franklin, Tenn.) to a 41-36 victory over Franklin Road Academy (Nashville, Tenn.) on Friday. Bo Bryan set a new career-high in passing yards and touchdowns with his dad watching on from the stands.

Teo McPhatter of Princeton (N.C.), high school football's leading rusher nationally, added to his impressive totals with 243 yards on the ground in a 64-0 win Friday over Wake Prep Academy (Wake Forest). McPhatter scored six times on the night with four coming via the running game, upping his season totals to 1,676 yards in six games for the Bulldogs. He didn't play in the fourth quarter of the running-clock contest.

The 6-foot, 190-pound senior accounted for 293 yards and five touchdowns in the first 24 minutes alone as No. 18 Thomas County Central (Thomasville) rolled to a 35-12 halftime lead en route to a 49-26 victory at No. 21 Lee County (Leesburg).

Girls flag football and wrestling are among the sports fueling the rise in participation. According to the 2021-22 survey, there were 15,716 girls participating in flag football nationally. That number has increased to 102,360 – an increase of 87,000 participants in just four years an up 48.7 percent in 2025-25 alone. A lot can change in 49 years. At Centreville Academy (Centreville, Miss.), generations of players have come and gone but Lea "Bill" Hurst kept finding ways to win football games. Hurst won his first state championship in 1976. In 2025, he won his 10th. On the list of coaches who have the most years between first and most recent state titles, no coach went longer between than Hurst, whose career record stands at 451-153 in the MaxPreps National High School Football Record Book.

The 5-foot-7, 190-pound running back tallied 234 rushing yards and five touchdowns on 11 carries in the first half, powering 4-0 Randle (Richmond, Texas) to a 91-0 rout over Fort Bend Dulles (Sugar Land). Williams-Callis broke free for a 33-yard score on his second touch of the Lions' opening drive to give Randle an early 8-0 lead. He followed with scoring runs of 12, 9, 62 and 49 yards, giving him five rushing touchdowns in consecutive games.

A pair of MaxPreps Top 25 matchups headlines this week's high school football action. In Georgia, No. 18 Thomas County Central (Thomasville) puts it 19-game win streak on the line against No. 21 Lee County (Leesburg) while out in California No. 20 Centennial (Corona) faces No. 25 De La Salle (Concord) on Saturday. Thomas County Central is winning by an average margin of over 42 points per game during its win streak and have outscored the opposition 224-42 this season.

After 11 seasons, two nationally-ranked California high school football teams will renew a rivalry Saturday at California Memorial Stadium in Berkeley. No. 20 Centennial (Corona) has something of a score to settle — although a longstanding one — while traveling more than 400 miles north to face No. 25 De La Salle (Concord) in the first 151 Showcase. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. following an 11 a.m. game pitting perennial Northern California powers Marin Catholic (Kentfield) and St. Mary's (Stockton).
