Lead Blizzard's World of Warcraft: Forever is a Classic+ iteration that returns players to an updated vanilla Azeroth with new zones, dungeons, raids, and other content. Announced at BlizzCon 2026, the game launches November 4. In comments following the announcement, Principal Designer Kris Zierhut and Lead Encounter Designer Mike Nuthals explained why they believe Forever makes a separate World of Warcraft sequel unnecessary.
WoW Forever's Controller Support Is Still in Alpha
Blizzard has brought official controller support to World of Warcraft: Forever, its newly announced upgraded take on vanilla-era WoW, with the feature currently running in an alpha state as shown at BlizzCon. The support is specific to Forever rather than a confirmed rollout across the wider WoW client. A hands-on account from PlayDay.One describes testing the feature across two BlizzCon demos: a grouped dungeon run and the starting area for Forever's new Skyborne race.
One Ethernet Pull Could Crash an FFXIV Server
Square Enix patched a serious Final Fantasy XIV bug on September 8, the same day the new Beastmaster job launched, after discovering an interaction that could crash an entire server rather than just the affected player's game. The issue, detailed on the official Lodestone notice, triggered when a player's character left the area due to a connection loss at the exact moment their pet used a weapon skill that restores its master's HP.
Blizzard Sets Wrath Remix for Summer 2027
Blizzard has confirmed that World of Warcraft will get a Wrath of the Lich King Remix, announced during the World of Warcraft: What's Next panel at BlizzCon. The limited-time event is planned for summer 2027, according to Blizzard's panel reveal. Wrath of the Lich King is, per Blizzard's own framing at the panel, its best-known and most beloved expansion, which makes it a heavier pull than the two expansions that got the Remix treatment before it: Mists of Pandaria and Legion.
LOTRO Testers Explore Gifts and Quests in Neighbours Beta
Standing Stone Games has begun testing Update 49.6 for The Lord of the Rings Online (LOTRO), giving Bullroarer testers their first hands-on look at the Neighbours system tied to the upcoming Wolves of Mordor expansion. The studio opened the beta this week on the official test server, according to the LOTRO forums. The feature isn't fully functional yet, but testers can already summon a neighbour to talk with, give and receive gifts, and work through a rotating panel of daily quests.
WoW Patch 12.1 Makes Neighborhood Endeavor Rewards Stick
Blizzard has added four new endeavor visitor themes to World of Warcraft's player housing system in Patch 12.1, including an Amani Trolls endeavor forced on every Neighborhood for the first month, according to Blizzard Watch. The subscription-based MMO's housing feature also now converts completed Neighborhood favor bars - including endeavors dating back to Patch 12.0 - into permanent changes to a player's shared locale.
World of Warcraft BlizzCon 2026 Brings Panels, Esports and Rewards
Blizzard has confirmed World of Warcraft's full BlizzCon 2026 programming, running September 12 and 13, with a lineup spanning forward-looking developer panels, esports finals, streamer activities, and Twitch rewards for viewers at home and on-site attendees alike.
FFXIV's Fourth World Debut Comes With a Ysayle Mystery
Square Enix has released Patch 7.56 for Final Fantasy 14, the subscription MMO's final content update before the Evercold expansion launches in January. Titled Trail to the Heavens, the patch sends the Warrior of Light to the Fourth, a parallel world that will serve as Evercold's main setting, and along the way flashes a figure who looks exactly like Ysayle Dangoulain, the Heavensward character who died in 2015.
Guild Wars 2 Story Finale Arrives With Leyspring Hollows
ArenaNet will release the final Guild Wars 2 content update for the Visions of Eternity saga on September 15, bringing the free-to-play MMORPG's ongoing storyline to a close. The update sends players to the Leyspring Hollows, a new explorable zone, to finish out the narrative arc that has driven the game's content cadence for the past several months. This is the storyline's endpoint, not just another waypoint.
FFXIV's Uolon Mount Has a Separate Token Path
Final Fantasy XIV's Moogle Treasure Trove returns on September 9, 2026, running through October 19 and introducing the Uolon mount as its headline new reward. The limited-time event follows the usual Irregular Tomestone format but ties the Uolon to a separate token system rather than a straight currency purchase, giving it a different shape than the mount reward from this year's Moonfire Faire.
