DT names next CFO, CTO in executive reshuffle
Deutsche Telekom revealed an executive shake-up which includes the departure of CFO Christian Illek in April 2027 to be replaced by Dhananjay Mirchandani, in addition to naming a new technology boss. In a statement, the operator explained Illek is departing for “age-related reasons” ending a 20-year stint at the company which included roles as chief HR officer and positions within the Technology department.
Huawei straps in to healthcare

The health theme dominated Huawei’s presentations of its Watch GT 7 Series, Watch D3 and a return to the European market for its Watch 6 Series.
Orange buys sovereign private 5G platform
Orange Business bolstered its sovereignty capabilities by acquiring a cloud-native private 5G platform from domestic company Obvios which targets operators of critical infrastructure, and defence and public safety players. The operator is adding Dome technology to its Defense and Security division’s line up in a move it expects to expand the range of secure and resilient connectivity services it provides.
Telstra external probe confirms network outage issue
Telstra CEO Vicki Brady (pictured) disclosed the findings from an external review into a network outage earlier this year, confirming the issue was caused by a technical event within its timing system. The Australian operator released the results from an investigation conducted by Technology Audit Partners (TAP), which backed up its own account released on 8 July when the outage occurred.
SoftBank buoyed by HAPS test, aims for use in 2027
SoftBank Corp and Sceye conducted their first trial of services using a High Altitude Platform Station (HAPS) positioned over an area in Japan, as the operator advances towards a goal of commercial use of the infrastructure in 2027. The Japanese company noted the vessel was able to supply stable voice and high capacity data communications to smartphones, supporting an emergency alert messaging system.
AI poised to drive $32T data centre boom
Global spending on data centres is set to hit $31.6 trillion by 2050 as demand for AI computing capacity drives a boom in infrastructure investment, according to consultancy group PwC. In its Global Data Centre Outlook report, PwC predicted annual data centre capex will rise from about $800 billion this year to $1.1 trillion in 2030 and $1.8 trillion by 2050. The consultancy added spending could even approach $50 trillion depending on the pace of AI adoption.
Maestri latest Apple shift as Ternus takes over
Former Apple CFO Luca Maestri reportedly stepped down from his role overseeing corporate services, the latest departure among Tim Cook-era executives as John Ternus settles into the CEO role. Bloomberg reported Maestri left his job as a VP for corporate services in recent weeks and now has no formal responsibilities beyond teaching a well-regarded class at the Apple University internal leadership training programme.
Qualcomm expands Dragonwing range in IoT push
Qualcomm unveiled a pair of fresh processors for its enterprise and IoT focused Dragonwing line, promoting the additions as suitable for use across a range of device types from industrial controllers to smart appliances. The chipmaker asserted the new offering would significantly expand access to “intelligently connected devices” across the IoT sector, both in terms of industrial and consumer deployments.
