Going overboard with canoes
Doing some peaceful paddling. SUBMITTED I received a press release awhile back from a recreational boat company stating there are 10 million canoers in the U.S., making canoeing the most popular form of paddle sports. The company is peddling paddling. I used to be among those passionate paddlers until I got tired of being dunked more times than a Michael Jordan basketball.
July 4thboating fatalities, arrests down from last year

TWRA Unlike last year, there were no boating fatalities in Tennessee over the three-day July 4th holidays, and Boating Under the Influence (BUI) arrests declined slightly. During last year’s July 4th weekend there was one boating fatality (on Center Hill Lake) and 24 BUI arrests made by Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency officers.
TWRA seeking shooting range officials
LARRY WOODY Main Street Media TWRA shooting ranges provide expert training. TWRA The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency is seeking volunteers to serve as shooting range instructors. They must complete an NRA or Shooting Range Officer class for certification. NRA, law enforcement or military experience is beneficial. The TWRA provides the shooting ranges and certified instructors as a public service. The Nashville area location is the Stones River Range, open Friday-Sunday.

MT ATHLETIC COMMUNICATIONS PHILADELPHIA –Three Blue Raiders were selected in the 2026 MLB Draft, marking the program’s 78-80th selections all-time. This is the most selections for Middle Tennessee since the 2018 MLB Draft, and sets a record for the 20-round draft format.

RCS names Steven McClanahan new safety director
Longtime law enforcement officer and teacher Steven McClanahan has been named the new Rutherford County Schools Director of Safety, according to an announcement from the school district. McClanahan succeeds Patty Oeser, who has announced her retirement after serving in the position since 2022. She previously served for many years with the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office.

Taste of Rutherford’s 36th year set for July 18 in Murfreesboro
The Main Street Murfreesboro Taste of Rutherford celebrates its 36th year on Saturday, July 18 on the grounds of Oaklands Mansion. “It started small, at someone’s house,” Murfreesboro Main Street board chair Michael Busey said. ” It has grown to Oaklands Mansion with 20-plus food vendors. It encourages people to shop downtown.
