An East of England Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called just after 2.10pm to reports of a train derailment in Wickford. We dispatched a significant number of resources to the scene, including our specialist Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) and critical care teams from charity partners including two air ambulances. “Our crews assessed 62 patients who were on board the train. Following assessment, all patients were discharged at the scene.

In the early hours of Christmas Day 2022, Andy Shaw awoke to the life-threatening stroke that would leave him unable to move the left side of his body. Before his stroke, Andy was healthy and active. He had served in the army and then worked as a police officer for 25 years. But on Christmas Eve, he developed a blinding headache.

A new urgent and emergency care facility designed to transform the experience of patients needing urgent and emergency care has officially opened at Arrowe Park Hospital. The £40m development includes a complete redevelopment of the Emergency Department for adults and children and the Urgent Treatment Centre. Consultant urologist and robotic surgeon Tim Lane has begun his new role as President of the Royal College of Surgeons of England. He is the first President of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in their 400-year history to have been directly elected by surgical members and fellows. Heart experts at Newcastle Hospitals are part of a national heart surgery trial involving more than 30 centres across the UK. The AFFECT trial is designed to identify the safest and most effective blood-thinning treatment to use after heart valve surgery for patients who also have a heart rhythm problem.

Surgical teams at Stockport NHS Foundation Trust have introduced innovative new voice recognition technology which is set to improve patient safety. The Voice-Care system is being introduced as a pilot scheme, with Stockport NHS the first trust in the country to use it in a surgical setting.
