An independent bottle shop and delicatessen has applied for a premises licence to open in the former Watch Nation unit in Hoole. Hooleigans Bottle Shop & Delicatessen is planning to open at 15-17 Charles Street, selling a range of British and Italian food and drink, including cheeses, charcuterie, olives, pasta, sauces and alcoholic beverages.
Plans for more than 500 homes in Woodford
More than 500 new homes could be built on the edge of a Stockport village joining up with another major development next door. Between them, Woodford could see more than 1,300 homes built. Plans have been put forward to build the new homes off Chester Road in Woodford. The development would include up to 423 new homes as well as an extra care facility for those over 55 with up to 72 beds.
Chester military parade to mark one of borough’s highest civic honours
A military regiment will march through Chester this weekend to mark being awarded one of the highest civic honours a local authority can grant. The parade will take place on Saturday 18 July, when 22 Multi Role Medical Regiment (22 MRMR) will exercise its Freedom of Borough of Cheshire West and Chester. The honour was awarded by the council in December 2024 in recognition of the regiment's service and strong links with the borough.
Construction complete on new Kings Moat Community Primary School
Construction of the new Kings Moat Community Primary School in Chester is now complete, with the council officially signing off the finished building. The new school will provide additional primary school places for families in the growing Kings Moat community and is expected to open to pupils in 2026. Cheshire West and Chester Council said the completion of the project marks a key stage ahead of the school welcoming its first children.
Police appeal after woman, 70, dies following Chester crash
Police are appealing for witnesses after a 70-year-old woman died following a serious road traffic collision in Chester. On Friday 10 July at 11.33pm, police were called to Parkgate Road, at the junction with Welsh Road, following reports of a crash involving a grey Cupra Born and a black Kia Sportage. The woman, who was a passenger in the Kia, suffered serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Her next of kin are being supported by specialist officers.
Stockport air quality considered 'unhealthy for some groups' as smoke continues to spread
Stockport's air quality has been deemed 'unhealthy for some groups', as smoke from nearby fires continues to blow over the area. IQAir - a Swiss air tracking company and purifier manufacturer - found that multiple areas of Stockport including Reddish and The Heatons had air quality which was unhealthy for the oldest and youngest residents, as well as for those with respiratory conditions. Police are appealing for information to help find a man who is wanted in connection with a burglary. Officers are looking to find 36-year-old Michael Hill, who has links to Brinnington, Denton and Hyde.
