You’ve built a career as a nuanced character actor. Did you approach this antagonist differently from past roles? Yes, of course every role is different, so the approach always varies. In this case, the physicality was quite important, so I spent a lot of time working on his posture and his movements. I also wanted him to have that classic gangster dialect, so I put a lot of focus on that.

As an actor, what muscles does the stage demand that the camera doesn't? For me, it’s all about the voice. We’re performing without microphones in a Shakespeare theater, so I have to project and use my voice to its fullest extent.

Was there ever a moment when your success made you feel uncomfortable? There have definitely been moments. For example, last weekend my ADE events sold out within a day, which was incredible. Those moments can be difficult because you have to keep both feet on the ground, as my grandfather always says. When I come home to my family, my partner or my best friends, I’m still the same Lisa. The harder part is actually allowing myself to slow down.

As your work has evolved, how has the way it bears these labels changed since you first set out? When I first started out, I talked about Porn for Women.

Your recent collaboration "Wadi Wadi" was released through Idris Elba’s label, Sound International. How did that project come together, and what did you enjoy most about working with EYAD and Dehmez? "Wadi Wadi" came together very organically. We wanted to create something that reflected our roots while still feeling contemporary and club-focused. Working with EYAD and Dehmez was a highly collaborative process because each artist brought their own perspective and energy to the record.

It allows you to really sit in moments with the character. Even when we’ve finished a season, I'm thinking about the next, to know you can really take your time in your character’s evolution and leave no road unexplored. The scale of the Game of Thrones universe comes with immense fan attention.

You’ve been moving between theatre and screen projects at an exciting pace. Do the two mediums challenge you in different ways? I’ve been so fortunate to have bounced between the two recently. I love filming, but I’d wanted to do some proper theatre for ages. It’s where my heart lies, so it’s been heavenly doing both. I think with any role, what we as actors strive for is finding the truth in a character, in a scene, in a story, and that’s part of where the challenges differ with each medium.

One of the co-writers played the drop and I immediately recognised it. I was like, “Wait… isn’t this Insomnia?” and my producer was like, “Yeah, we have to use this.” It just felt right instantly. Growing up, I’d always hear the song because my uncle used to play it all the time.

Silly, in this context, is letting loose, dancing without a care, dancing so hard your thong starts showing. I love to be silly, I love to have fun. I’ve always been someone who dances in any situation, as long as I like the energy.
