There was yet another twist in the rancorous back and forth lawsuits between West Sub Hospital landlord Rathnaker Reddy Patlola and hospital CEO Manoj Prasad’s Resilience Healthcare Friday morning. “I thought we were having a settlement conference,” Judge Patrick Stanton said as he looked out at the four attorneys standing before his bench, including newcomer Travis Richardson.

River Forest officials consider action taken at a July 9 Cook County Circuit Court hearing to be a “meaningful step forward” toward resolving the ongoing foreclosure dispute between Beverly Bank and Lake Lathrop Partners. At that hearing, Judge Anthony Kryiakopoulos determined that Alpha Construction, an entity owned by previous developer, Marty Paris of Lake Lathrop Partners, failed to comply with the court’s order issued in June to obtain appropriate legal representation.

Multiple community members spoke at Oak Park’s village board meeting on July 14 to call for a referendum on proposed updates to the zoning code which could eliminate single-family zones. Trustee James Taglia, seconded by Trustee Cory Wesley, will offer a motion to consider an advisory referendum at the July 21 board meeting. The board will vote to approve or deny the zoning change recommendation from Opticos Design, a consulting firm, on July 28.

It all started with a television set. In 1989, Dollard Carey was living on the 1200 block of Woodbine in Oak Park when he purchased a large TV. Residents of Oak Park gathered on the Home Avenue pedestrian bridge Wednesday morning in response to two fatal shootings this past week by ICE agents in Maine and Texas. They held their signs through nearly 90-degree heat, drawing waves and honks from drivers on Interstate 290, below the bridge. On the morning of Monday, July 15, ICE agents shot and killed 26-year-old Joan Sebastian Guerroro during an operation in Biddeford, Maine.

Since 2022, Oak Park candy shop Candycopia has hosted an in-store Sour Candy Challenge, pushing customers’ taste limits to the test while showcasing their one-of-a-kind, extreme sour treats. But this Saturday, Candycopia is looking to take things to a whole new level by hosting what it’s calling “The World’s Largest Sour Candy Tasting” — all for a chance to claim a Guinness World Record.

Cook County Commissioner Tara Stamps led a walk-out and moment of silence for Christian Wallace, the man recently killed in an officer-involved shooting, at Oak Park’s village board meeting on July 14. Stamps called for “radical solidarity” from community members and village government. Vicki Scaman, Oak Park village president, and other trustees briefly adjourned the meeting and took part in the moment of silence held in the village hall courtyard.
