The Oregon boys soccer team tied with Verona 0-0 in a nonconference clash on Saturday, Sept. 5, at Huntoon Field. Oregon netted two goals late to earn a 2-0 win over Watertown in a Badger Large Conference opener on Thursday, Sept. 3, at Watertown High School. The Panthers picked up a 3-1 nonconference win over Sun Prairie West on Tuesday, Sept. 1, at Huntoon Field. Oregon 0, Verona 0 Senior goalie Liam D’Amelio-Will finished with seven saves for Oregon.

The Oregon girls tennis team swept doubles play en route to a 5-2 Badger Large Conference dual win over Monona Grove on Thursday, Sept. 3, at Ahuska Park. At the top doubles flight, Oregon’s Celia Brink and Hayley Swenson defeated Brooke Becker and Lucy Bittner 7-6 (4), 7-6 (2). Oregon’s Ella Kavanaugh and Keeley Penly teamed up for a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 2 doubles against Kailey Stollenwerk and Lucy Stickford-Becker.

In 2022 Glenn Hofer, Owner of Ridgeview Development presented his Autumn Ridge and Foxboro Golf Course Develop Plan to the Oregon Village Board. He stated his plan was, “to improve the maintenance and operation so Foxboro would be successful for the long term and any property owner adjacent to the course would not be affected.” Glenn Hofer leased the course to Mike Kerig making him responsible for its operation and maintenance.

Juniors McKinley Younggren and Maya Hegg tied for seventh to lead the Oregon girls golf team to a third-place finish at a Badger Large Conference min-meet on Thursday, Sept. 3, at Watertown Country Club. Younggren and Hegg both carded 42s. DeForest senior Abigail Henriksen and Beaver Dam senior McKenna Nelson tied for medalist honors with 35s. DeForest finished first at the meet with a 158. Milton edged Oregon for second 172-173. Oregon senior Madelyn Sharkus shot a 44.

Even after a loss, the Oregon volleyball team is walking away from Thursday’s conference opener with the utmost trust in one another. Oregon began Badger Large play with a 3-2 loss to Watertown on Sept. 3, at Watertown High School. The Goslings outlasted the Panthers 25-17, 23-25, 21-25, 25-17, 15-12. Oregon coach Kelsey Stilson said she learned a lot of positive things about her group in the loss.

Recently the Oregon Area Historical Society received $500 from the Madison Area Professional Women’s Giving Circle at their 16th cycle gathering. Heather Young, the museum’s board president, shared with the women how the historical society began and its most recent work to preserve the stone sculptures from the former Hallelujah Camp.

The $5 we withhold today to a campaign could cost us $10 tomorrow in taxation. Even if we can’t donate with a dollar we can donate with our time, intellectual abilities and willingness to get out there and encourage people to vote. What may seem like a lot of time now may take a lot more time and heart aches in fighting to regain the freedoms lost or the devastation that must be dealt with after a failed campaign.
