At the Tuesday, Aug. 25 meeting of the Stoughton City Council, members discussed how to fill the council seat that opened in District 4 with the recent resignation of Sarah Abel. The seat is up for re-election next spring for a three-year term. The board had the options to leave the seat vacant until the spring 2027 election, fill it with a special election to fill out the remainder of the term, or appoint someone to fill the term.

At the Monday, Aug., 17 Verona Area School District Board of Education meeting, district officials presented the proposed 2026-27 budget. The proposed school levy is around $87.4 million, an increase of about 5%. With projected growth in equalized property values, VASD anticipates maintaining the mill rate at $10.66 per $1,000 of equalized property value. The proposed budget would be balanced through a combination of staffing reductions achieved through attrition and compensation assumptions.

The Oregon Village Board welcomed in a new Oregon Senior Center assistant director, approving the hiring of Danielle Bassing, who will succeed director Tricia Nicoll, who recently took over for Rachel Brickner, who retired in June. She will likely start in that role next week.
