Braeden Bowman also scored for Vegas in the shootout.

CHICAGO (AP) — José Ramírez homered and drove in three runs, and the Cleveland Guardians beat the Chicago White Sox 9-5 on Thursday night to send their AL Division Series to a winner-take-all Game 5. Patrick Bailey also went deep as the Guardians won for the second consecutive day in Chicago after beginning their postseason with two straight losses at home. Jo Adell hit a two-run single to cap a six-run sixth inning for the AL Central champions.

CALGARY — Cale Makar scored twice and added an assist to lead the Colorado Avalanche to a 7-3 victory over the winless Calgary Flames on Thursday night. Devon Toews and Jaden Schwartz also had two goals apiece for Colorado (3-1-0), which bounced back from Wednesday’s 3-2 loss in Winnipeg. Nathan MacKinnon also scored and added two assists. Adam Klapka, Mikael Backlund and Kevin Bahl scored for Calgary (0-4-0), the only NHL team yet to record a point this season.

MIAMI (AP) — Tropical Storm Simon has strengthened into a hurricane in the Pacific, the National Hurricane Center in Miami said Thursday. The storm was hundreds of 235 miles (380 kilometers) south of western Mexico’s port city of Manzanillo. Maximum sustained winds were around 75 mph (120 kph). It was moving west-northwest at 6 mph (9 kph). It’s expected to turn northwest early Friday and north on Saturday.

OTTAWA — Carter Yakemchuk’s first regular-season goal was the game-winner in the Ottawa Senators’ 2-1 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers on Thursday night. Yakemchuk broke the tie with a power-play goal with seven minutes remaining in regulation. He made his NHL debut in the playoffs last spring. The Flyers (0-3-2) are still looking for their first win of the season. Philadelphia’s Matvei Michkov was the lone Flyer to beat Linus Ullmark, who made 29 saves.

MONTREAL — Ryan O’Reilly scored the winning goal with 3:16 remaining as the Nashville Predators erased a 2-0 deficit and escaped with a 5-2 win over the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday. The veteran centre redirected a point shot from Roman Josi on the power play 59 seconds after Canadiens defenceman Mike Matheson tripped Steven Stamkos in the neutral zone. Adam Edstrom added a pair of empty-net goals to secure Nashville’s victory despite being heavily outshot.
