OEE is not a hammer, nor is every problem a nail
Consider a common scenario: a pharmaceutical manufacturing plant has identified the equipment most critical to the success of its processes and has begun tracking overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) for those assets. Management has set an ambitious OEE metric of 95% for those critical machines, and operators and technicians are collaborating closely to make sure they hit their benchmarks. BeOne Medicines invests more than $1B to expand pharma manufacturing

The expansion comes at the company’s flagship clinical and commercial-stage manufacturing and R&D center in Hopewell, New Jersey. It brings BeOne’s total U.S. manufacturing investment to more than $1 billion.

Otsuka ICU Medical to invest $500M in IV solutions manufacturing in the US Original
Otsuka ICU Medical today announced plans to invest more than $500 million to expand its U.S. IV solutions manufacturing in Texas. The companies (Otsuka Pharmaceutical Factory and ICU Medical), which launched this joint venture last year, plan to deliver a new facility and significant upgrades to its existing operations in Austin, Texas. They expect the expansion to enhance long-term supply resiliency and accelerate new product development.
Evonik to invest $100M in US drug contract manufacturing site
The Tippecanoe Lab site [Image courtesy of Evonik] Evonik announced today that it plans to invest $100 million to expand its pharmaceutical manufacturing capabilities in the U.S. The Essen, Germany-based company is investing in its Tippecanoe Labs site in Lafayette, Indiana, which houses one of the world’s largest facilities for the production of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs). Over the next five years, the company plans to invest $100 million to modernize key equipment in Indiana.
Codis acquires oral solid dose plant from Catalent
Codis announced today that it agreed to acquire an oral solid dose (OSD) development and manufacturing plant from Catalent. Acquiring the Nottingham, UK-based facility will add OSD development and small-scale manufacturing capabilities to Codis’ offerings, enabling it to offer a single partner path for integrated spray dry solutions. It can now provide development through clinical supply and commercial intermediates to final oral dose forms.
Besins Healthcare acquires pharmaceutical manufacturing company UniD

UniD specializes in long-acting drug-delivery technologies, bringing decades of expertise to Besins, which delivers a range of hormone therapies. The company works with advanced polymer technology for complex long-acting delivery systems, including implants and vaginal rings.
Shoko to begin manufacturing pharmaceutical product in Korea

The facility saw its full-scale commercial production commence in February 2026. Excipients are the inactive, non-drug substances formulated alongside an active pharmaceutical ingredient (API).
BD names new president of Pharmacy Automation biz
Matt Sassone [Image courtesy of BD] BD (NYSE:BDX) announced today that it appointed Matthew Sassone as worldwide president of its Pharmacy Automation business. Sassone now leads the global business within the BD Medication Management Solutions business unit. His appointment goes into effect immediately. In the role, Sassone’s responsibilities include driving global strategy, performance and growth for Pharmacy Automation as part of Connected Care.
