By ERIC TUCKER and ALANNA DURKIN RICHER, Associated Press WASHINGTON (AP) — The FBI has continued its personnel purge, forcing out additional agents and supervisors tied to the federal investigation into efforts to overturn the 2020 election. The latest firings took place despite efforts by Washington’s top federal prosecutor to try to stop at least some of the terminations, people familiar with the matter told The Associated Press.
By JOSH FUNK, AP Transportation Writer Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy predicted Tuesday that there could be chaos in the skies next week if the government shutdown drags on and air traffic controllers miss a second paycheck. By DARLENE SUPERVILLE, Associated Press WASHINGTON (AP) — Former Vice President Dick Cheney may have been a legendary figure within the Republican Party, but for President Donald Trump, he was part of a long list of people he viewed as political opponents. While White House flags were lowered to half-staff in remembrance of Cheney on Tuesday, there was no fanfare, and Trump made no comment about Cheney’s death on social media.
Associated Press Former Vice President Dick Cheney battled heart disease for most of his adult life, a life extended thanks in part to a heart transplant in 2012. Cheney, who died Monday due to complications of pneumonia and cardiac and vascular disease, had his first heart attack at the unusually young age of 37. He would go on to survive four more before his heart declined enough to qualify for that transplant.

Jon Stewart and “The Daily Show” will live to see another day — or another year. The Emmy Award-winning funnyman has extended his contract to host and executive produce the late-night comedy series through 2026. Paramount, now owned by Skydance Corp., announced Monday that Stewart will continue to lead the long-running, New York City-headquartered Comedy Central juggernaut, appearing on camera every Monday and continuing to produce the series through December 2026.

Senators from both parties, Republicans and Democrats, are quietly negotiating the contours of an emerging deal.
It’s not a presidential election. But voters will go to the polls Tuesday dozens of states, deciding everything from local tax measures to high-profile races that could impact national politics. In short, Tuesday is the most significant election in the United states since last November, experts say, when President Trump defeated Kamala Harris in the presidential race, and Republicans maintained control of the House and Senate.
