The Centennial Cougars (1-2) picked up its first win, 7-1 over Spring Lake Park on Tuesday evening, led by Dara Akpan with four goals. Adding a goal each were Bri Stuckey, Lydia Parker, and Khloe Reker. Mia Sutch in goal stopped seven of eight shots.

Age 78, of White Bear Lake, passed away unexpectedly on August 22, 2026. Bill was born, raised, worked, walked, served, and played right here in White Bear Lake—a community he proudly called home his entire life. He attended St. Mary’s Elementary School and graduated from White Bear Lake High School in 1966. He was an avid hockey player. After high school, he played Juniors in Waterloo, IA. Bill proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War.

Age 91, of Dellwood, passed away peacefully on August 31, 2026. Preceded in death by husband, Leonard G.; siblings: James, Mary Corley, Jean Corley, and Theresa Weisinger. Survived by children, Leonard P. (Jill), Geoffrey R., Juliet R. Fox (Forrest) and Maya J. Park; grandchildren, Paris, Savannah, Summit, and Milena; great-grandchildren, Royal, Ariyah, and Orion; and siblings, Barbara J. Carnes (Bob); Veronica J. DuPuis (Paul); Joe P. Ryan (Sharon); John T. Ryan (Gailyn) and Elizabeth K.

The Mounds View boys placed first in the 22-school Rosemount Irish Invitational on Friday. Top three teams were the Mustangs with 64 points, Rosemount 80 and Eden Prairie 123. In the two-mile race, Hunter Miller led with a fourth-place finish in 10:17. William Drury was eighth in 10:32, Ismaeel Ahmed 14th in 10:43, Charlie Alstatt 17th in 10:46, and Benjamin Shaw 21st in 10:56. Individual champion was Max Molinaro of Two Rivers in10:02.

The Centennial Cougars opened with a shutout victory Thursday evening, beating Rosemount 20-0 at home. It was a successful debut for new head coach Michael Diggins, formerly defensive coordinator.

Stillwater beat Centennial 27-25, 18-25, 25-21, 25-14 on Thursday. Centennial is 0-2. Rogers beat the Cougars 22-25, 17-25, 25-27, 25-21 on Aug. 27. The Cougars will host Duluth East on Wednesday.

Unable to stop Lakeville South’s running game,  Mounds View lost the season opener to the Cougars 28-21 at home Thursday evening. The Mustangs kept It close behind quarterback Tanner Jude, who completed 14 of 20 passes for 113 yards and ran 13 times for 73 yards. He threw a 21-yard touchdown to Jordan Hvistendahl and scored on a one-yard sneak. The Mustangs also got a kickoff return touchdown from Jack Holmes. Case Wassink caught four passes for 50 yards and Hvistendahl six for 42 yards.

July 15, 1931 – August 29, 2026, Lino Lakes, MN. Vernon (Vern) was born in Pine Grove, WI on a farm outside of Green Bay, WI. He attended High School in Bowler, Wi but in his senior year his family moved to Gresham, Wi where he met the love of his life, Donna. Donna and Vern were eventually married but before that he was called to serve. He worked on a dairy farm for a year or two after High School before signing up to serve in the Coast Guard.

HUGO — Forged Fiber 37, an open-access wholesale fiber network platform owned by AT&T, plans to upgrade all of Century Link’s old lines to high-speed fiber throughout the entire city over the next four to five years. Senior Engineering Technician Liz Finnegan said the city was first contacted by Fiber 37 last winter to let them know that they were going to be coming to town to upgrade the old fiber.
