Youth infusion perks up White Bear Township baseball

The White Bear Township baseball team heads into the holiday break with a 6-5-1 record, including 4-2 in league play, an encouraging half-season for a program that’s been winning about one-fourth to one-third of its games for many years. It’s the result of a youth movement, the addition of seven players from White Bear Lake’s 2025 team that had a 17-8 record against a formidable schedule. “We got seven of eight college players from that White Bear Lake varsity,” said manager Bill Copacaso.

Zephyrs’ Finn gets Mr. Baseball award

Two days after Connor Finn helped Mahtomedi capture its second consecutive state championship, he received the Mr. Baseball award last week. “I was shocked and honored; there are a lot of great ballplayers in the state,” said Finn. “It was a goal of mine.” Finn’s name was called at a banquet for the eight finalists. The 6-foot-3, 200-pound left-hander throws consistently around 95 mph and has a wicked slider as well. “I had one at 97 in my last start,” he said.

Mahtomedi routs Totino-Grace to capture another state baseball title

The Mahtomedi Zephyrs cruised to a 10-0, six-inning win over Totino-Grace in Class 3A baseball finals on Monday, picking up their second consecutive state championship and fourth overall. Alex Kurpis threw five shutout innings and the Zephyrs all but wrapped it up early with a six-run second inning, at Target Field. Kurpis allowed three hits and three walks, leaving six runners on base, striking out seven.
