Well, that was eventful. Somehow, the Rams acquired a two-time All-Pro cornerback — Trent McDuffie — in a blockbuster trade and he became their fourth-most notable addition. In terms of player acquisitions, few modern NFL offseasons can match this one for firepower. After playing it safer from 2023-25, the Rams are fully back in “eff them picks” mode. Though, one big-picture caveat did some with that.

The 2026 season is going to look a whole lot different for Mike Tomlin. It will mark the first time since 2006 that he wasn’t the head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers. And it will be the first time since 1994 that he wasn’t coaching in any capacity. The long-time coach will spend the upcoming campaign as a broadcaster with NBC, but that gig could be short-lived. Tomlin admitted that he’d consider a return to the sideline after the upcoming season…assuming the right opportunity comes his way.

Jamaal Williams didn’t see the field during the 2025 campaign and remains unsigned ahead of the 2026 season. While that would seem to indicate that the running back’s NFL career has come to abrupt end, Williams made it clear that he still wants to play. During an appearance on The Schultz Report, Williams told Jordan Schultz that he’s still searching for his next gig.

After losing out on the starting QB gig earlier this summer, J.J. McCarthy has now lost out on the backup job, as well. Vikings coach Kevin O’Connell told reporters that Carson Wentz will enter the season as the team’s QB2. That means McCarthy will start the year as the third quarterback on Minnesota’s depth chart.

Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh confirmed on Wednesday (via ESPN’s Kris Rhim) that Kayode Awosika would be the team’s starting left guard. Awosika, 27, beat out Trey Pipkins in a training camp battle that initially featured five competitors. Second-round pick Jake Slaughter moved back to his natural position after a season-ending injury to Tyler Biadasz, and Trevor Penning and Branson Taylor both fell back during the preseason.

Raiders tight end Brock Bowers will miss at least one game after undergoing a procedure on his knee due to a training camp injury. The procedure was described by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport as a “meniscus trim” performed by Dr. Daniel Cooper, a renowned knee expert and the Cowboys’ team physician. Those words will still worry Raiders fans and Bowers’ fantasy owners alike, but the All-Pro tight end is only expected to miss “a game or two,” per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

LSU gave up their attempt to field players who had signed NFL contracts this season under intense pressure from the SEC, seemingly ending the months-long saga surrounding such players, at least at the college level. The NFL may have thought they were done with the situation, too. But tight end Dae’Quan Wright – the unofficial poster child for athletes attempting to exercise their fifth year of eligibility – is now trying to make his way back into the pros.

It appears Steelers rookie offensive tackle Max Iheanachor will begin his career as a backup. With the Steelers set to open their season against the Falcons on Sunday, “all signs” are pointing to Dylan Cook starting over Iheanachor at right tackle, according to Ray Fittipaldo of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Troy Fautanu will start on the left side. Head coach Mike McCarthy has not officially named Cook the starter, but it sounds as if he is leaning that way.
