Progressive Publishing creates and distributes industry-focused magazines to dairy, beef and forage producers throughout the U.S. and Canada. Our focus is always on the farmer. We take pride in the range of our information. From the small 50-head dairy producer to the 10,000-head commercial producer, our readers can always find a wide array of information no matter the scale of their operation. This is our mission because we know what it’s like to start small and progress toward your potential.
The company’s first publication, Progressive Dairy, spent 14 years of its life being produced from founder Leon Leavitt’s basement. It started out as an eight-page flyer for dairy producers in the Northwest. From there, it has grown to a 120-plus page magazine that is delivered to dairy producers across the U.S. every three weeks. Quarterly, issues are sent to all U.S. producers, regardless of herd size. Administrators of the 11 Federal Milk Marketing Orders (FMMOs) reported July 2022 uniform milk prices, producer price differentials (PPDs) and milk pooling data, Aug. 9-12.
USDA raises 2022-23 milk production forecasts, putting a dent in price projections
Progressive Dairy Editor Dave Natzke Published on 12 August 2022 The USDA’s monthly World Ag Supply and Demand Estimates (WASDE) report, released Aug. 12, 2022, revised 2022-23 U.S. milk production estimates higher due to larger cow inventories and increases in milk output per cow. Projected average all-milk prices were lowered for both years. Compared to last month, the USDA raised the 2022 milk production forecast by 800 million pounds, to 226.8 billion pounds.
Fan installation peaks milk production through summer on SunRidge Dairy
After a neighboring dairy installed fans in their freestall barns, Ryan Kroes was able to see firsthand the better results their neighbors had during the hot summer months. It was then Kroes and his family members decided they wanted to reduce heat stress in the summer and create a more comfortable environment for their cows at SunRidge Dairy, located in Nampa, Idaho.
Forage testing for the future
The case in favor of how valuable a forage test can be is solid and largely undisputed, but how often do those tests need to be performed to be most efficient? Rosy-Lane Holsteins in Watertown, Wisconsin, is part of a project by Rock River Laboratory called the data-driven program. In this program, forage testing is implemented on a much more frequent basis than usual so feed adjustments can be made in a timelier manner.

U.S. slice of cheese export market growing strong
Global economic uncertainty apparently isn’t diminishing foreign demand for U.S. cheese, according to a monthly market update from the U.S. Dairy Export Council (USDEC). Multiple factors, especially adequate cheese supplies at competitive prices, put the U.S. in a position to continue export growth in the near term and increase its presence in the international market.
