Following a close contest, the Enderby Icemen kept cool under pressure to edge the Sicamous Eagles 7-6 in overtime Friday night, Oct. 9. The hosting Eagles came out strong in the evenly matched game, with Pierre Spencer lighting up the board early in the first, followed shortly after with a marker from Isaac Flory on a power play conversion.

Switzerland’s Yannick Schwaller didn’t think twice when posed with the opportunity to take his red-hot momentum from 2025-26 to southern B.C. this weekend. The world’s No. 1-ranked curler is among the 24 skips at the Nufloors Penticton Curling Classic until Oct. 11. Schwaller, coming off an Olympic bronze medal and his first-career Grand Slam title, is leading his team into playoff action on Saturday after going 4-0 in round-robin play.

Though their name is indicative of their origins, musician Irish Mythen has an international reputation that will be coming to Song Sparrow Hall on Nov. 28. Originally from Ireland and now based in Prince Edward Island, Mythen is known for raw vocal power, a magnetic stage presence and the ability to forge real connections with audiences.

Smashed, stuffed, or dipped, the burger gauntlet has been thrown down with the ChamBURGER challenge. The Salmon Arm Chamber of Commerce initiative, ChamBURGER Month, was grilled up to encourage residents and visitors to “explore local restaurants, enjoy some creative burgers, and support businesses that contribute to our local economy.” In a media release announcing the tasty challenge that runs Oct.

A reckless driver caused serious damage to the gate at the Kangaroo Creek Farm in Kelowna on the night of Friday, Oct. 9. ​Kangaroo Creek Farm posted a video of the incident to its social media channels, and security footage shows the driver smashing through the metal gate on Old Vernon Road at 8:44 p.m. ​The video shows headlights blasting toward the gate before a gold-coloured car goes right through it and screeches to a halt.

An Okanagan karate dojo is one of the best in the world, accumulating the most medals during the 2026 Soke Cup. Taneda Karate Dojo sent a contingent of 42 competitors to Gold Coast, Australia in August to compete in the 2026 International Chito-Ryu Soke Cup. The Soke Cup is held once every three years and draws practitioners of the Chito-Ryu style of karate from all around the world. The Okanagan dojo took home 45 medals during the competition, including 12 gold, 18 silver and 15 bronze.

Late in September, an information session was held to begin a process for developing a destination trail planning framework for the North Shuswap. Joining community leaders at this local chamber of commerce sponsored meeting were representatives from the Columbia Shuswap Regional District (CSRD) parks department, B.C. government ministry staff, Shuswap Trail Alliance staff and other interested community members.

This month, voters will head to the polls twice. On Oct. 17, we decide who sits on the councils that shape what gets built in our neighbourhoods. One week later, we will set our policy direction at the provincial level. For many British Columbians, both ballots come down to kitchen-table questions. Where will our parents go when they can’t manage their house anymore? Where will our kids live when they leave the nest? Gentle density is part of the answer.

The B.C. Lions are playoff bound. Quarterback Nathan Rourke threw for 360 yards and three touchdowns, leading the Lions to a 41-20 win over the visiting Ottawa Redblacks in CFL action Friday at BC Place. With the win over the winless Redblacks, the Lions clinched a post-season berth. Zander Horvath rushed for 89 yards and two touchdowns for the Lions (10-6), with James Butler, Stanley Berryhill, Jevon Cottoy and Keon Hatcher also adding majors. Kicker Sean Whyte added five extra points.

Fall is here and with it comes thoughts of a roaring fireplace, home meals and the perfect Pinot Noir or Chardonnay.
