Through it all, one constant has been change. We've been through a lot. I've been here for seven and a half years, the organization's been around nine. There's been a lot we've gone through. As is typically the case, the Golden Knights were at the center of many of the juiciest offseason blockbuster trade rumors. However, the dust has now settled, and none of them came to fruition. VGK moved out a few players for assets, made one hockey trade swapping defensemen, and signed a new crop of bottom-sixers to fill out the roster. Even though the mega move didn't come through, it doesn't mean there's nothing to learn from Vegas' decisions to start this summer.

In the summer of 2024, the Golden Knights were searching to replace the 42 goals scored by Jonathan Marchessault after departing for Nashville in free agency. VGK's front office turned to Victor Olofsson, a former teammate of star center Jack Eichel and a 22-goal-per-season winger. Well, they've done it again. This time around, Olofsson was brought in to replace the 37 goals that Pavel Dorofeyev scored last season.

The free agency dinner bell is set to ring in two days, and the Golden Knights have plenty of business to take care of. Understandably, most of the focus has been on VGK sniffing around some of the biggest names available, but they also have a lot of work to do with their own players set to hit free agency. Here's a quick look at each player set to hit the market's situation, projected contract value, and a prediction of his future in Vegas.

The Golden Knights started the Draft without a selection in the top 90 and just four picks overall. However, following the trade of Pavel Dorofeyev, along with a few moves down, they've restocked and will have a healthy crop of new prospects.

The 2026 NHL Entry Draft gets underway tonight and we're feeling a bit left out. The Golden Knights do not select until Pick #95 which won't happen until tomorrow. Over 22 playoff games, the Golden Knights scored a total of 76 goals in four rounds. It was Vegas' most offensively productive postseason since their success in 2023. It was a bounce back for the Golden Knights, who struggled to score in the 2024-25 postseason. After being eliminated in five games by the Edmonton Oilers in 2025, VGK's management's stated objective was to find more goals.

Well, it looks like the Golden Knights are planning another active summer. Since their Stanley Cup Final exit on June 14th, Vegas has been linked to every big name rumored to be on the move, as they have been since the 2018 offseason. Let's be honest, it wouldn't be a true summer without the Golden Knights management making some sort of headlining move. Already, the talking heads are expecting Vegas to be aggressive and make attempts for some of the big names in circling the rumor mill.

Next season four Pacific Division teams will play for a new head coach. Edmonton, Los Angeles, Vancouver and Vegas have all announced or are close to announcing their new bench bosses for 2026-27. Yesterday, the Golden Knights predictably introduced Ryan Craig as their new head coach. The Canucks and Kings have hired their new leaders, and the Oilers will be announcing controversial coach Mike Babcock next week. It's rare that half of the division changed coaches in the same offseason.

If every person in the world could have the attitude and mentality of Tomas Hertl, it would be a much better place to live. The man who accidentally coined the phrase "fun must be always" lives that mantra every day because he knows the career of a hockey player doesn't last forever. I always like to laugh and have fun around the rink. I just try to enjoy every moment because time flies, especially the hockey, and before you know it, it'll be over.
