SNOHOMISH — Volunteers convened on the morning of Saturday, June 27 to clean downtown Snohomish, particularly around the Avenue A Gazebo, and at the Centennial Trail, for work parties arranged by the Historic Downtown Snohomish Association (HDSA). About 20 volunteers cleaned around the gazebo, Katie Waltemyer, HDSA’s Programs and Communication Manager, said. “This is a good turnout to clean up the gazebo,” HDSA board president Ken Coman said.

To the Editor: The June 17 issue of the Tribune had a letter signed by Paul Keller titled “Remove politicians who don’t uphold Constitution.” In my opinion the wording of most of the letter sounded like it came from a conservative Republican with heavy MAGA leaning. I think I have seen a previous letter from the author and hope the Tribune editors have validated the source since it seems to come from a MAGA publicist.

The Snohomish County Health Department is preparing for difficult financial decisions as state and federal funding uncertainty continues to challenge local public health operations. While the department received a far smaller reduction than initially feared to its state Foundational Public Health Services (FPHS) funding, officials say broader budget pressures could still lead to reductions in staffing and programs in the months ahead.

SNOHOMISH — Hub burgers are back, but for a limited time. On Saturday, July 11, The Hub is hosting an event for charity at Thomas Family Farm in Snohomish. The event’s proceeds are going toward three organizations: the Snohomish Community Food Bank, the Bridge Receiving Center, and a charity of choice by the hosts, the Thomas Family. It’s not the first time Hub burgers have returned to support charity. The Hub restaurant closed in 2010 after 50 years of family ownership.

Volunteers can serve on the ballot statement Pro or Con Committees for five County Charter amendment propositions being brought to the November 2026 ballot by the Charter Review Commission. Applications are due no later than noon on July 8.

SNOHOMISH — The 10th annual Snohomish Summer Smash tennis tournament is happening July 16-19. The all-high school competition draws tennis players from across the region. The deadline to register is July 8 at 9 p.m. through www.snohomishsummersmash.com The Snohomish High School Tennis Booster Club and Snohomish High coaching staff run the tournament.

EVERETT — Snohomish County leaders last week set a six-month freeze on allowing any data centers on unincorporated land so it can develop formal rules to regulate them. Data centers are the physical processing hubs to deliver almost everything on the internet, and the industry’s competitors are building new centers at what some call breakneck speed to keep up with demand in what’s become a giant horse race. AI’s heavy processing needs is accelerating the construction of more data centers.

MONROE — A newly opened clothing shop downtown had about four weeks on the books when a bright yellow do-not-occupy notice appeared earlier this month. Tienda La Tradicional’s shop owner Flor Mendez, 26, said she never knew it was coming. The city put up the sign two weeks ago at 125 W. Main St. because unpermitted work was done to the building to address a sewer backup failure from two years ago. Somebody fixed it, but nobody obtained permits.

Snohomish United’s Nicolas Wiskel leaps over a Portland Bangers player during a June 19 match at the Snohomish Stocker Soccer Fields. Snohomish won 4-0 over the Portland Bangers. Aaron Leon scored three of the goals. Wiskel scored a goal on a penalty kick. The Snohomish’s men’s team currently lead the USL2 Northwest Division with an 7-1-0 season so far as of June 21.

The legwork led to one of Snohomish’s four goals in the match held at the Stocker Soccer Fields in Snohomish. Snohomish won 4-0. Snohomish United currently leads the USL-W Northwest Division with a 8-1-2 season so far as of June 21. Their regular season concludes June 28 with an away game against Salmon Bay FC of Seattle.
