EVERETT — Snohomish County leaders last week set a six-month freeze on allowing any data centers on unincorporated land so it can develop formal rules to regulate them. Data centers are the physical processing hubs to deliver almost everything on the internet, and the industry’s competitors are building new centers at what some call breakneck speed to keep up with demand in what’s become a giant horse race. AI’s heavy processing needs is accelerating the construction of more data centers.

Monroe council stalls on adding speed zone cameras

MONROE — The City Council stalled on going ahead with automated ticketing speed zone cameras after a conscientious conversation at last week’s City Council meeting. Council members all agree there’s a problem with speeding in-town. Half the council, though, questioned whether spending on the fixed costs of a camera program is the right move and want more answers.

Snohomish River Valley business sues stricken nonprofit over unpaid rent

SNOHOMISH — Dairyland’s John Beal wants the $83,000 owed to him by his tenant in the Snohomish River Valley. The hiccup is, his tenant is the now-dissolved nonprofit Farmer Frog, a large-scale food aid program brought to its knees by state and federal funding cuts in 2025. December 2025’s floods made the final blow, destroying its equipment and vehicles. The nonprofit administratively dissolved this March. It claims that by then it had less than $10,000 to its name.
