ATLANTA (AP) — Angel Reese has accepted Toronto Tempo coach Sandy Brondello's apology for an inappropriate comment about the Atlanta Dream star. The WNBA suspended Brondello one game for being overheard calling Reese a “protected species” during the Dream's 111-92 win over the Tempo on Friday. “First, I appreciate Sandy’s apology, but I also appreciate the love and support that I’ve had for the last 48 hours," Reese said before the Dream played the Chicago Sky on Sunday.
Ryan Fox wins the British Open with a birdie on the final hole
SOUTHPORT, England (AP) — The hard work for Ryan Fox was just getting to the 18th hole in the British Open with a share of the lead. Still to come was the toughest hole at Royal Birkdale, which had yielded only four birdies to the 76 players who had already come through Sunday. For a 39-year-old from New Zealand, the son of an All Blacks rugby star who once only dreamed of having a card on any tour, this was no time to back down.

TORONTO — Even the usually optimistic John Schneider was defeated by his Toronto Blue Jays' offensive struggles in their first series returning from the All-Star break. The Blue Jays (46-53) managed only five runs and 16 hits in their three-game set against the Chicago White Sox as Toronto was blanked for the seventh time in 2026 with a 3-0 loss in the rubber match on Sunday.

BTS, Madonna and the Muppets take the World Cup stage
Madonna opened the World Cup halftime show with her 2000 dance-pop hit “Music,” joined by star Brazilian soccer players of yesteryear, Ronaldo and Ronaldinho. It started with an apparently pre-recorded piece in a roller rink before she rode into the stadium on a dune buggy, singing “Music, makes the people come together.” Venezuelan conductor Gustavo Dudamel led an orchestra through the White Stripes’ sports anthem “Seven Nation Army,” while Animal and other Muppets bopped and shook.
US announces another troop death as Israel warns Tehran's attacks are coming close
DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — The United States announced another death of a service member as it launched more airstrikes at Iran on Sunday in response to the killing of U.S. troops, and Iran fired missiles toward Jordan that risked widening the conflict into neighboring Israel. Step by step, the U.S. and Iran have returned closer to all-out war as last month's interim deal meant to permanently end the fighting has crumbled and shipping traffic in the Strait of Hormuz has largely stalled.
Spain controls 1st half, but settles for 0-0 score with Argentina at halftime in World Cup final
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — Spain controlled the first half in terms of possession and shot attempts, yet had to settle for a 0-0 score at halftime in the World Cup final against Lionel Messi and Argentina on Sunday. As it tends to do, Spain — which allowed only one goal in the tournament entering the final — simply kept the ball away, connecting on twice as many passes as Argentina in the opening half.
