He’s also a natural-born racer who wanted more speed but instead of going the usual route and fitting a V8 into his VH, Troy decided to keep the six and slot it into something a whole lot lighter.

Ask him about his GQ Patrol, SHQRTY, and before long you’re talking about backyard engineering, Saturday-night car meets, the history of hidden tracks in and around Alice Springs… and why on earth he decided to stuff a BMW turbo diesel into a GQ Patrol. That’s because SHQRTY isn’t just another modified Patrol. It’s a reflection of the bloke who built it. “I’ve owned my SHQRTY for nearly 10 years,” Jordan says.

The three-day program will transform the Supercars weekend into a huge celebration of horsepower, tyre smoke and sideways action, with multiple Summernats shows running across the event.

Once again, FOMO (fear of missing out) struck the Street Machine team hard in the first week of June, and I felt it particularly keenly now that I’m a Queenslander. The two biggies are Cooly Rocks On in Coolangatta on the Gold Coast, and the Winternationals at Willowbank Raceway, but this year, someone also decided to throw in Drift the Downs at Morgan Park Raceway in Warwick and All GM Day at Queensland Raceway.

Anthony Meskos’s Barra-powered FPV F6 Tornado, KNGFPV, is one of the toughest six-bangers to ever grace the pages of Street Machine. What started as a daily hack for towing jet skis and hauling dirt bikes has snowballed into a street-and-strip monster powered by a billet, 3.8-litre Barra jammed with an incredible 73psi of boost in full flight mode.

Holden’s HK-T-G models have long been a beloved part of Aussie car culture.
