High schools Saturday: Leavitt field hockey tripped up by Skowhegan

Kaitlyn Dufour scored three goals and Skowhegan won a clash of unbeaten field hockey teams Saturday, beating Leavitt 4-2 in an interclass game at Lewiston High School. Two of Dufour’s goals came in the first quarter, including the opener just 27 seconds into the game.

Leavitt football pours it on in ‘home’ game against Wells Original
LEWISTON — Don Roux Field at Lewiston High School isn’t Leavitt’s home football field, but it sure felt like it during the Hornets’ Homecoming game Saturday. The Hornets scored 34 seconds into the game and cruised to a 42-0 victory over Wells in a Class C matchup. “A lot of guys stepped up, did their part, and you saw what happened when we do that,” said Jeremiah McKenzie. McKenzie and fellow running back Landen Reny combined for five touchdowns. The backfield tandem did not play in the second half.

Route 196 in Lisbon closed as emergency crews respond to crash Original
Part of Lisbon Street (Route 196) in Lisbon is closed to traffic as emergency crews respond to a vehicle crash, according to the Lisbon Police Department. Route 196 will be closed at its intersection with Route 9 and Pleasant Street, and the Lisbon Public Works Department is working on setting up detours. Police are asking drivers to seek alternate routes until further notice and expect delays. Authorities have not released further details about the crash. This is a developing story.

I encourage everyone to vote early — in person — from Oct. 5-29 at their local municipal clerk’s office for November’s midterm election. People can contact their city or town for the exact voting dates and times. Skip the lines, convenient, secure. I have been anxious that my vote might not be counted if I use a mail-in absentee ballot. There also have been suggestions that ICE could be sent to the polls.
